Atlanta Fibroid Center Marks 20 Years of Empowering Women's Health with Non-Surgical Treatment
Atlanta Fibroid Center Celebrates 20 Years of Transformation in Women's Health
The Atlanta Fibroid Center has reached a significant milestone, marking 20 years of service in women's healthcare, specifically in the treatment of symptomatic fibroids. Founded by Dr. John Lipman in 2005, the center has revolutionized the options available for women dealing with fibroid complications, allowing over 10,000 women to avoid hysterectomy through a groundbreaking procedure known as Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE).
A Pioneering Journey
From its inception, the center was developed with the mission to provide minimally invasive surgical alternatives for women suffering from symptomatic fibroids. The UFE procedure, which is performed as an outpatient treatment, involves blocking blood flow to uterine fibroids, leading to their shrinkage without the need for extensive surgical interventions. This innovative approach not only preserves the uterus but also maintains the fertility options for women, which is a critical aspect of their overall health and wellbeing.
As part of the celebration of this two-decade journey, the Atlanta Fibroid Center hosted a fundraising event that raised $15,000 for Hosea Helps, an organization dedicated to supporting families facing food insecurity in the local community. This demonstrates the center's commitment not only to enhancing healthcare options but also to giving back to the local community.
A Call for Change
Despite the success of the UFE procedure, Dr. Lipman emphasizes that awareness of this treatment is still lacking. He critiques the obstinate adherence within the medical community to the traditional hysterectomy approach, particularly affecting young Black women who are disproportionately impacted by fibroids. Dr. Lipman's passion for empowering women to exercise their healthcare choices is evident as he advocates for wider acceptance and utilization of UFE.
Mayor Andre Dickens also commended the center, recognizing its important role in improving women's health and advocating for options that enhance the lives of countless individuals. “Dr. Lipman and the Atlanta Fibroid Center's leadership in women's health has set an important example,” said Dickens, highlighting the center's positive community investment and professional excellence.
