Cohen & Steers Reports Decline in Assets Under Management for May 2026

Cohen & Steers, Inc., a prominent investment management firm, has released preliminary figures that reflect its assets under management (AUM) as of May 31, 2026. According to their recent announcement, the company reported total AUM of $99.5 billion, which marks a decrease of $645 million from the $100.1 billion reported at the end of April 2026. This reduction can primarily be attributed to a combination of market depreciation and client distributions.

Breakdown of Asset Changes

The reported decrease includes a market depreciation estimated at $592 million, and client distributions totaling $154 million. Despite these declines, Cohen & Steers did experience net inflows amounting to $101 million, which somewhat mitigated the overall drop in AUM.

Investment Vehicle Performance

Analyzing the types of accounts that contribute to the AUM, the firm categorized its assets into institutional accounts, open-end funds, and closed-end funds. For institutional accounts, the total fell from $38.856 billion to $38.410 billion. This drop included a $219 million depreciation and $50 million in distributions across advisory and subadvisory accounts.

Open-end funds showed a similar trend, declining from $48.506 billion to $48.456 billion due to market fluctuations and client withdrawals. Closed-end funds saw a decrease to $12.589 billion, affected by a $93 million market depreciation and client distributions of $56 million.
