October 7 Event: Sharing Lessons from Disaster
As we mark the 30th anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, a significant event will take place on October 7 at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. The Independent Administrative Institution Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Kansai Center will participate in the 'Best Practices Commemoration Event,' sharing its expertise gleaned from this historical catastrophe.
Currently, the ongoing Osaka-Kansai Expo is showcasing numerous innovative projects aimed at solving global challenges. Under the 'Best Practices' program, over 2,700 initiatives have been registered as 'Co-creation Challenges/Partners' from around the world. From these, a committee has carefully selected 25 projects that exemplify excellence, with JICA Kansai's initiative earning a spot among them.
Highlighting JICA Kansai's Initiative
The project recognized as a Best Practice is titled 'Building a Sustainable Future through Co-creation: JICA Kansai/DRLC Disaster Risk Reduction Platform.' This initiative, established in 2007 in collaboration with Hyogo Prefecture, leverages the knowledge and lessons learned from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. By sharing these experiences with disaster prevention experts and officials from developing countries, JICA has helped train almost 4,000 individuals, significantly contributing to global disaster resilience.
This honor places JICA Kansai’s effort among the four most noteworthy projects selected from the Best Practices, ensuring meaningful discussions at the upcoming event. Participants will include representatives from the selected projects who will share insights on addressing challenges collaboratively. This is an excellent opportunity for attendees to glean valuable lessons through panel discussions surrounding each project's background, core experiences, achievements, difficulties faced, and future aspirations.
