CITGO Lemont Refinery Celebrates Community Partners at Annual Breakfast

In a heartfelt effort to strengthen local ties, CITGO Lemont Refinery hosted its annual Partnership Breakfast, showcasing gratitude towards 44 local organizations that have played a pivotal role in numerous community-focused initiatives during the course of the year. This event not only celebrates shared achievements but also emphasizes the importance of collaboration among various community outreach programs.

Throughout 2024, CITGO, alongside its partners, has engaged in beneficial projects aimed at supporting local students, individuals, and families. Initiatives ranged from promoting STEM education in schools to making significant donations to various charities including the United Way and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. A noteworthy aspect of this community engagement is CITGO employees' volunteer contributions. They collectively dedicated nearly 2,000 hours to various causes, further underlining the commitment of the workforce to giving back.

Jim Cristman, Vice President and General Manager of CITGO Lemont Refinery, expressed his heartfelt appreciation during the breakfast, stating, "We had so many great things happen this year, and we couldn't have done it without our partners. I'm incredibly thankful to have partners who truly care for our community and support our joint efforts."

In celebration of a decade of the Caring For Our Environment initiative, this year's breakfast particularly honored the refinery's environmental partners. Several grants were awarded to support ongoing environmental efforts, recognizing the contributions of:
  • - The Conservation Foundation: A key player in programs focused on removing invasive species and restoring local habitats. Their partnership with the Village of Romeoville has made significant strides in ecological restoration.
  • - The Forge Charitable Adventures: This organization champions the Heritage Quarries Shoreline and Aquatics Restoration initiative, aimed at preserving biodiversity through improved watershed management and habitat enhancement.

In order to amplify the positive impact of its environmental projects, CITGO also announced increased grant support for 2024. A total of 17 environmental organizations located around the Gulf Coast region and in Illinois were selected as grant recipients. These organizations are engaged in diverse projects related to environmental conservation, ecosystem restoration, and community-based initiatives.

CITGO Petroleum Corporation, which operates three refineries and numerous terminals across the U.S., stands as a significant entity in the refining industry, recognized for its commitment to operational excellence and sustainable practices. With a crude refining capacity nearing 807,000 barrels per day and around 3,300 employees, CITGO is poised to continue making impactful contributions to both local communities and environmental stewardship in the future.

The success stories highlighted at the Partnership Breakfast not only reflect CITGO's ongoing dedication to corporate social responsibility but also showcase the power of community involvement where local organizations actively contribute to solving pressing social issues. This synergy of resources, passion, and commitment is essential for driving positive change, making the Lemont Refinery a vital force in its community.
