Unique Craft Beer 'Friday at 17:00' Born from Learning and Interaction in Shibuya

Introduction to 'Friday at 17:00'

A new original craft beer, "Friday at 17:00," has been launched by Shibuya Cast, marking a significant milestone in Japan's craft beverage scene. This unique beer was born out of a collaborative program held at the learning and interaction space known as SHIBUYA CAST. SCHOOL. The project brought together individuals from various backgrounds to learn, engage, and co-create in an innovative agricultural initiative.

The Inspiration Behind the Project

The initiative is built around the concept of work, residence, and leisure, aimed at nurturing creativity among participants. SHIBUYA CAST. SCHOOL was established to facilitate the creation of new values through community interactions. The first program, a Craft Beer Workshop, was launched in April 2025, featuring four sessions that went beyond just brewing knowledge, covering topics like connection to the local community and design perspectives. Participants engaged in hands-on workshops, deepening their understanding of craft beer as they collaborated.

During the final session, participants brainstormed on a theme that resonated with the Shibuya area—"A beer to toast with at Shibuya Cast this September." Through a voting process, the name "Friday at 17:00" was chosen. It was a comprehensive process where attendees helped with the brewing and labeling stages, experiencing every step from conceptualization to final product completion. This collaboration resulted in a distinctly Shibuya Cast beer that embodies local spirit and creativity.

Unveiling Event Highlights

On September 5th, an unveiling event for 'Friday at 17:00' took place at Shibuya Cast. Esteemed guests included Takusin, the brewer responsible for crafting the beer, and SOERU's designer Okada, who illustrated the label. They shared insightful stories behind the creation and vision of the beer, while instructors from the Craft Beer Workshop also reflected on the journey of the project. The atmosphere was lively as attendees mingled, enjoyed the newly unveiled beer together, and shared moments filled with cheers.

Beer Characteristics

'Friday at 17:00' is inspired by the premiere scene of people enjoying beer together at Shibuya Cast at the end of their work week on Friday evenings. This Juicy Brut IPA combines the crispness characteristic of a Brut IPA with a burst of tropical and juicy flavors that creates a refreshing aftertaste. Brewer Takusin commented, “By merging the dryness of Brut IPA with the juiciness of an IPA, we aimed to craft a beer that perfectly resonates with the ambiance of Shibuya Cast.” The label design by Okada from SOERU further emphasizes the essence of Shibuya’s vibrant community.
