Celebrating Female Leaders in the Fight Against Sex Trafficking
In recognition of International Women's Day and Women's History Month, Our Rescue, a global NGO dedicated to fighting against sex trafficking and child exploitation, is highlighting the invaluable contributions of female leaders in this ongoing battle. Although men and boys are also victims, women and girls represent a significant majority of those affected; a report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime revealed shocking statistics whereby, for every ten victims detected globally, five are women and two are girls.
To create awareness and gather support, Our Rescue has teamed up with the Kendra Scott Foundation, hosting events titled 'Shop for a Cause' in thirteen cities across the U.S. These events aim to raise both funds and local awareness about the plight of survivors. Each participating Kendra Scott store will donate twenty percent of sales generated during a specific time frame on March 15, 2025, to Our Rescue. Online shoppers can also contribute using a special code from March 15 to March 17 at Kendra Scott's website.
Tammy Lee, CEO of Our Rescue, remarked, "Women and girls are disproportionately victimized by sex trafficking crimes. Our Rescue aims to shine a light on these abhorrent crimes this March. We invite everyone to join us in this mission to support survivors and the heroic figures fighting for their rights."
Events to Support
In addition to the shopping events, Our Rescue will host 'Comedy for a Cause' on March 7, 2025, at the Woman's Club of Minneapolis. Featuring Marti MacGibbon, a survivor and stand-up comedian, the event serves to raise awareness about sex trafficking and child exploitation. Proceeds from ticket sales will directly fund survivor care services.
The upcoming events at various Kendra Scott locations aim to create a sense of community around the cause:
- - Atlanta: Shops Around Lenox
- - Austin: The Domain
- - Chicago: 900 North Michigan Shops
- - Cincinnati: Kenwood Towne Center
- - Dallas: North Park Center
- - Houston: Baybrook Mall
