Huawei Holds the 4th Forum on Digital Economy Development

At the MWC Barcelona 2026, Huawei convened its 4th Forum on Digital Economy Development, engaging around 100 digital strategy developers, industry experts, and representatives from associations across regions like the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa. The discussions centered on exploring growth opportunities within the digital economy in an era defined by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

During the opening speech, David Wang, Huawei's Executive Director of the Board, shared insights and practices on essential themes including policy, infrastructure, and talent, all revolving around the forum's theme: "From Vision to Value for an Intelligent Future."

The explosive growth of AI has made it a central element in today's economy. Moreover, the adoption of physical AI is accelerating. According to IDC, AI is projected to contribute $22.3 trillion to the global economy by 2030. This significant figure indicates that the digital economy is no longer merely about "connectivity + data"; rather, it has evolved into a paradigm where "AI + decision-making" is paramount. As a result, AI is reshaping the global economic landscape and restructuring value chains.

Drawing from Huawei's extensive experience in digital economy development, Wang highlighted three key areas that require attention for achieving high-quality growth in the global digital economy. First, there needs to be supportive industry policies that fully back the digital economy, facilitating a deep and synchronized development of both digital and real economies. Second, a future-oriented infrastructure is essential for the digital economy to thrive, providing a solid foundation for the widespread application of digital technologies and transformations across various sectors. Finally, a multi-tiered and sustainable talent ecosystem is critical for the long-term sustainable development of the digital economy.

In conclusion, Wang expressed optimism, stating, "The era of AI has already arrived. Huawei will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to build intelligent industries and lay the groundwork for an intelligent world. Let’s transform vision into value together and shape our intelligent future."

During the forum's main session, participants gathered to discuss the future of digital infrastructure building. Joyce Liu, Huawei’s Director of Marketing Operations, emphasized that digital infrastructure serves as the cornerstone of industry development in the AI era. This entails advancing infrastructure across multiple fronts, including networks, energy, and computing power. The industry players must prioritize establishing low-latency network connections quickly to ensure that the development of AI is not hindered by fragmented information systems. Additionally, there's an urgent need to expedite the creation of green data centers, stimulating computing growth while reducing carbon emissions.

Professor Rong Ke, Director of the Institute of Economics at Tsinghua University, addressed the audience, highlighting the significance of data as a crucial factor of production in the AI era. To unlock the full value of data, it is imperative to enhance the digital infrastructure throughout the processes of generation, transmission, storage, and application.

A fundamental consensus emerged during the forum on key themes related to the advancement of the digital economy. Countries must develop AI strategies and implementation paths that align with their unique circumstances to effectively promote intelligent transformation.

Since its inception in 2023, the Huawei Digital Economy Development Forum has gradually emerged as a high-level communication platform focused on innovation and collaboration, designed to ensure global success.
