Special Exhibition 'Save the Glass Earth' by Osamu Tezuka

The Tokiwaso Manga Museum in Toshima will host a special exhibition titled 'Save the Glass Earth' by the legendary manga artist Osamu Tezuka. This event will take place from August 2 to November 24, 2025. The exhibition aims to celebrate Tezuka's contributions to the world of manga and his enduring message around the respect for life and the beauty of nature.

Background

Osamu Tezuka, often referred to as the 'God of Manga', debuted in 1946 and has since captivated audiences with his storytelling and artistic skills. Throughout his career, he has continuously advocated for the importance of life and nature through his vast array of works. This particular exhibition focuses on Tezuka's representative essay collection, 'Save the Glass Earth: To the Kids of the 21st Century', highlighting around 110 original manuscripts penned by Tezuka.

Visitors will have the unique opportunity to view significant pieces such as 'Jungle Emperor' and 'Astro Boy', alongside rarely displayed short stories and works created before his official debut. These manuscripts provide not just a glimpse into Tezuka’s remarkable talent, but also the messages he wished to convey to future generations concerning environmental consciousness and social responsibility.

Special Features of the Exhibition

In addition to the manuscripts, the exhibition will feature a special screening of a lecture by Tezuka himself, where he shares his thoughts and aspirations regarding nature and humanity. This audiovisual presentation will allow visitors to connect even deeper with his vision and values.

A representative from the Toshima district commented on the significance of this exhibition: 'This initiative aligns with many themes of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The timing is fitting with the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo on the horizon, which also aims to promote sustainability. We hope everyone will come and appreciate Tezuka’s works, and reflect on the importance of life and nature.'
