The highly anticipated third episode of the manga series ‘War Food,’ produced as part of a collaborative project by the Japan Junior Chamber (日本青年会議所) and Akita Shoten, is set to premiere on September 16, 2025, at 00:00 on the digital comic platform 'Yanchan Web.' This episode features an engaging narrative set against the backdrop of the Mikawa region in Aichi Prefecture, specifically highlighting the cities of Toyokawa and Toyohashi.

A Journey into Mikawa’s Tsukudani

This episode is titled “Tsukudani of Mikawa,” and it centers around the beloved local delicacy that has been passed down through generations. In a year marking the 80th anniversary since World War II, the Japan JC aims to combat the fading memories of war by launching an ‘80-Year-Old Story Discovery Project.’ This initiative looks to gather and share the often-overlooked stories of life and cuisine during wartime through the relatable medium of manga. The series invites stories from across the nation that reflect the experiences and daily lives during the conflict, with selected episodes specially illustrated by the talented manga artist, Sannome Mitsu.

The third episode will showcase the rich history of Mikawa’s tsukudani, a preserved food often made from seafood or meats cooked in soy sauce and mirin, which has a deep connection to the Pacific War.
