Acadia Infrastructure and Microsoft Unite for Climate Justice and Renewable Energy
Acadia Infrastructure Capital, a prominent player in the clean energy sector, has recently announced a significant development: the formation of the Climate and Communities Investment Coalition (CCIC). This coalition, featuring Microsoft as a cornerstone member, seeks to channel investments into clean energy projects that not only prioritize environmental sustainability but also deliver tangible benefits to local communities across the United States.
The CCIC aims to facilitate the construction of a staggering 5 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy projects over the next five years. This ambitious initiative is projected to prevent approximately 15 billion pounds of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere each year, an effort that could power more than 850,000 homes. The coalition's framework is designed to help corporate members align their environmental and sustainability goals with impactful renewable energy projects.
With an emphasis on enhancing community benefits, the CCIC is committed to providing access to sustainable infrastructure and fostering healthy environments. The coalition also aims to promote economic inclusion while empowering community organizations. Tim Short, Managing Partner at Acadia Infrastructure, emphasizes that the CCIC aims to provide a 'triple win' scenario—clean energy, improved earnings for member corporations, and substantial real-world impact.
As the CCIC embarks on its journey, it is already building on its track record, having successfully closed its first project in Texas. Short envisions similar ventures leading to billions in clean energy investments over the coming years. Microsoft’s Director of Environmental Justice, Danielle Decatur, highlights the importance of this initiative, stating that it provides corporations with valuable opportunities for high-quality renewable energy procurement supported by the Sustain Our Future Foundation.
This foundation is dedicated to transforming sustainable development to maximize equitable community benefits and attain environmental justice. Yinka N. Bode-George, Founder and CEO of the Sustain Our Future Foundation, reiterated the coalition's invaluable role in addressing historical environmental injustices while advancing clean energy solutions that generate lasting benefits for affected communities.
Acadia Infrastructure is actively seeking additional corporations to join this collaborative platform, emphasizing mutual learning and a united front on climate infrastructure. Dr. Brian O'Callaghan, Vice President at Acadia, believes that the CCIC will significantly amplify the impact of corporate clean energy programs by attracting further capital to support a reliable and sustainable energy system.
Founded with a mission to provide custom investment structures tailored to partners' unique goals, Acadia Infrastructure sees the CCIC as a pivotal platform driving a just energy transition. As Acadia progresses with this initiative, it looks forward to announcing more corporate members joining forces in this essential endeavor.
