Cameron LNG Achieves Remarkable 1,000th Cargo Export Milestone
On July 17, 2025, Cameron LNG celebrated a significant milestone in its operational history with the successful export of its 1,000th cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG). This achievement comes just six years after the company initiated its first cargo shipment on May 31, 2019, marking a major stride in the company's journey within the energy sector.
The milestone cargo was transported aboard the Maran Gas Kimolos, departing from the Cameron LNG liquefaction facility located near Hackberry, Louisiana, along the strategic Calcasieu Ship Channel. Art Klein, the president of Cameron LNG, highlighted the achievement as a testament to the skill, determination, and commitment exhibited by the entire team. He stated, "This 1,000th cargo represents the skill, determination and commitment of the Cameron LNG team. Achieving this milestone safely and reliably speaks to the strength of our core values of safety and results-based success."
Martin Hupka, president of LNG at Sempra Infrastructure and chairman of the Cameron LNG Board, also expressed his admiration for the team. "On behalf of the Board and our partners, I congratulate the Cameron employees on this achievement. Reaching this milestone in just six years is a remarkable accomplishment that reflects the expertise and tireless dedication of the entire team. It’s also a powerful demonstration of Cameron LNG’s role as a world-class operator helping to meet growing global demand for secure, reliable, and sustainable natural gas."
The Cameron LNG facility features three liquefaction trains, capable of exporting a total of up to 14.95 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), which is equivalent to roughly 772 billion cubic feet of natural gas annually. The facility commenced commercial operations with Train 1 in August 2019, followed by Train 2 in March 2020 and Train 3 in August 2020. Its strategically advantageous position allows for access to both Atlantic and Pacific markets, resulting in Cameron LNG delivering U.S. LNG to an impressive 37 countries worldwide since its inception.
Cameron LNG is a joint venture involving affiliates of Sempra Infrastructure, TotalEnergies, Mitsui Co., Ltd., and Japan LNG Investment LLC, which is a collaboration between Mitsubishi Corporation and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK).
The journey toward achieving this milestone has not been without its challenges. The LNG market involves uncertainties, regulatory hurdles, and varied economic factors that companies must navigate. As highlighted in the company’s communications, forward-looking statements regarding future performance include numerous assumptions and are fraught with risks. These encompass everything from local and international economic conditions to regulatory approvals essential for expanding operational capabilities.
Despite these potential hurdles, the export of the 1,000th LNG cargo is a clear indicator of Cameron LNG's strategic planning, operational excellence, and commitment to meeting the increasing global energy demand for LNG. Combined with its inherent safety practices and focus on environmental sustainability, this achievement is expected to reinforce the company’s standing within the energy sector, paving the way for future successes as it continues to respond to a rapidly evolving energy landscape. As the demand for LNG continues to grow, Cameron LNG is poised to play a pivotal role in ensuring the supply of reliable and sustainable natural gas for a cleaner energy future.
