Successful Campaign for Tsuruikotancho Trust in Hokkaido

The Japan National Trust Association, based in Toshima City, Tokyo, has successfully achieved its fundraising target for the Tsuruikotancho Trust Campaign, striving to protect the beautiful landscapes in Tsuruimura, Hokkaido. Through generous donations from supporters across the nation, the campaign reached its financial goal in June, accumulating a total of approximately 5,113,000 yen.

This trust land, a significant habitat for the national natural monument, the Tancho crane, has been obtained in collaboration with Tsuruimura to preserve the scenic beauty of the Snow River area. The campaign effectively secured around 23 hectares through two phases: the first phase in December 2022 saw the acquisition of approximately 7.5 hectares, followed by an additional 17 hectares in March 2023. This initiative plays a crucial role in preventing significant development and megasolar projects that could adversely affect the landscape and nature, ensuring the preservation of these invaluable natural resources for future generations.

The breathtaking view from Otowabashi, showcasing the trust land during the snowy season, attracts many Tancho cranes that gather in Tsuruimura, using this area as a roost at night. The newly protected land is strategically located in the hilly regions behind this scenic viewpoint.

Phase 1: Tsuruikotancho Trust 1

- Site: Approximately 7.5 hectares of Tsuruikotancho Trust Phase 1
- Period: December 11, 2025 – March 11, 2026
- Participation: Donations starting from 5,000 yen
- Target Amount: 1.5 million yen
- Donation Allocation: Fund land purchasing costs for Phase 1
- Total Donations Collected: 1.5 million yen (excess funds directed to Phase 2)

Phase 2: Tsuruikotancho Trust 2

- Site: Approximately 17 hectares of Tsuruikotancho Trust Phase 2
- Period: March 12, 2026 – July 12, 2026
- Participation: Donations starting from 5,000 yen
- Target Amount: 3.36 million yen
- Donation Allocation: Fund land purchasing costs for Phase 2
- Total Donations Collected: 3,613,000 yen
