Chongqing Hosts the 8th WCIFIT Featuring Global Innovations and Culinary Delights

The 8th Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT) commenced in Chongqing on May 21, 2026, demonstrating a remarkable gathering of around 1,400 enterprises from 50 countries and regions. This year's event, which runs until May 24 for four exciting days, is set to explore innovative avenues in investment, trade, and industrial collaboration throughout western China.

Underlining Chongqing's significant transformation from a heavy industrial hub to a modern epicenter for high-tech advancement, the fair boasts a massive 150,000-square-meter exhibition space featuring leading-edge technologies and advanced manufacturing solutions. Attendees can look forward to nearly 40 distinct events that highlight innovations including cutting-edge robots from Unitree and futuristic flying cars by Changan, in addition to experiencing the rich flavors of authentic local cuisine.

The United Kingdom proudly takes on the role of the guest country of honor at this year’s fair, complemented by Sichuan Province’s status as the permanent guest province. Furthermore, Gyeonggi Province from South Korea is spotlighted as the guest city. Noteworthy representatives from the UK comprise reputable firms like McLaren, GSK, HSBC, Standard Chartered, and InterContinental Hotels Group.

During his comments at the opening ceremony, Peter Wilson CMG, British Ambassador to China, accentuated Chongqing's transition into a vibrant hub fostering digital innovation and high-tech manufacturing. 'Chongqing has evolved into a gateway to western China and a pivotal driver of regional growth in the global supply chain network,' he stated. This shift aligns with the United Kingdom's ongoing focus on advanced manufacturing, digitalization, green growth, and innovation-led development, which paves the way for enhanced cooperation.

Additionally, during the event, Kim Dae-soon, Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, emphasized the historic trust that has developed between Gyeonggi and Chongqing. He conveyed that the partnership between the two regions is expected to deepen further because of the fair, reflecting the Chinese proverb, "A close neighbor is better than a distant relative."

This year, Chunqing unveiled its first-ever Investment Opportunities List, featuring a total of 277 projects aggregating nearly 580 billion yuan, spanning five key areas: the robust "33618" modern manufacturing cluster system, technological innovation, development of a new energy and computing hub, strategies for inland open development, and advancements in megacity governance and urban modernization.

On-site, the event witnessed a significant signing ceremony, resulting in a total of 212 signed projects across sectors such as intelligent connected new energy vehicles, next-generation electronic information, and biomedicine, fostering a synergistic atmosphere for business development.

In summary, the WCIFIT in Chongqing stands as a beacon of innovation and collaboration, paving the way for new partnerships and progress in the industrial landscape of western China. Each exhibitor, from advanced tech companies to gourmet food stalls, enriches the experience, making it a prime destination for investment and trade discussions with global ramifications.
