Special Event Announcement: Railway Museum Night

The renowned optical equipment manufacturer, Tamron Co., Ltd., led by CEO Shogo Sakuraba and located in Saitama City, is thrilled to announce a special event aimed at improving railway photography etiquette. We are hosting the 3rd Railway Museum Night Photography Session & Railway Photography Etiquette Workshop, in partnership with East Japan Railway Company's Omiya Branch. This event will take place at the Railway Museum in Saitama City, adding a unique opportunity for both railway enthusiasts and aspiring photographers to learn and capture stunning images.

Event Background

Since 2008, Tamron has conducted the Tamron Railway Scenery Contest, which invites participants to showcase their best railway photographs. Through this contest, we have sought to foster a deeper appreciation for proper railway photography etiquette, an issue that has garnered attention in various media outlets in recent years. Our goal is to spread awareness among participants about the importance of respectful behavior when photographing trains. We have made available messages from our esteemed judge, photographer Naoki Hirota, on our website about railway photography etiquette, encouraging all to familiarize themselves with these crucial guidelines. About the Event

Participants will have the chance to attend the Railway Museum Night Photography Session coupled with the Railway Photography Etiquette Workshop. As an added bonus, Tamron will provide free rental of our high-quality lenses to enhance your photographic experience during the event.

• - Date & Time: Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM (exclusive access)
• - Location: Railway Museum, 3-47 Taisei-cho, Omiya-ku, Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture

• - Capacity: 125 groups, totaling 250 participants (Can apply as a pair or individually)

> Note: Entry will be determined via lottery if applications exceed capacity.

Additionally, we are accepting submissions for the 18th Tamron Railway Scenery Contest from April 24 to September 1. Photos taken during the event are encouraged for submission, and we welcome all participants, regardless of contest entry.

Schedule and Content

Workshop: Railway Photography Etiquette

To ensure fun and safe railway photography, we will hold an informative session detailing proper etiquette and behavior while photographing. Each session will accommodate about 85 participants, with a total of three classes lasting approximately 20 minutes each.

• - Instructors: Photographers Naoki Hirota and Masaki Kanemori (Judges of the 18th Tamron Railway Scenery Contest)

After the lectures, employees from East Japan Railway Company will present additional requests and guidelines related to railway photography.

Photography Session: Vehicle Station

Outside the workshop hours, participants will have the opportunity to photograph within the vehicle station, featuring 36 real train cars on display. Our instructors will provide guidance, but please note that individual assistance may not be available for all participants.

• - Equipment Guidelines: There are no restrictions on brand or model types for cameras or lenses (smartphones are also permitted).

Lens Rental

Free rental of Tamron lenses will be provided (reservation required, lottery system applies if demand exceeds supply).

• - Available Lenses: 20 models for mirrorless cameras and 4 models for digital single-lens reflex cameras.

Camera rentals will not be provided.
