Collaborative Science Academy Teaches Young Minds about Infrastructure and Construction Roles

Experience-Based Science in Soka City

In an innovative initiative aimed at sparking interest in science and construction among young students, Kato Works Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Soka City and Tokyo Denki University, is organizing the second session of the hands-on learning course, "City Heroes Academy: Science Edition," scheduled for July 22, 2026, at the new Soka Fire Station.

Purpose of the Academy

This event represents a collaboration among the three parties—local government, academia, and industry—providing an invaluable experiential learning opportunity that is often lacking in traditional school education. The participating stations—Kitasenju, Soka, and Satte—are all conveniently connected by private railway lines, enhancing accessibility for students from different regions. The goal is to offer an educational experience that benefits young learners and the local community alike.

The program consists of three sessions designed to cultivate interest in science and manufacturing among the younger generation while encouraging them to think about Soka City’s future. The first session took place on July 4, and the upcoming session at the Soka Fire Station marks the second installment. The third session is planned for August 25, 2026, at Kato's Ibaraki Factory.

Content of the Lecture

The second installment will start with an introduction to the importance of maintaining and managing the infrastructure that supports our daily lives. Participants will then learn how construction machinery plays a critical role in building essential facilities like fire stations. This session aims to deepen their understanding of urban development and the systems that contribute to creating safe and efficient cities.
