PenFed Credit Union Celebrates Grand Opening of Its New Financial Center in Humacao, Puerto Rico

On July 9, 2025, PenFed Credit Union, recognized as one of the largest federal credit unions in the United States, celebrated the inauguration of its newest financial center located at Carr #3 Km 83.6, Rio Abajo Ward, Humacao, PR 00791. This event marked a significant milestone, emphasizing PenFed's ongoing commitment to addressing the financial needs of its members throughout Puerto Rico while bolstering local economic development.

The ceremonial ribbon-cutting was attended by local dignitaries and community members, all of whom welcomed PenFed's expansion into Humacao. James Schenck, the President and CEO of PenFed Credit Union and head of the PenFed Foundation, stated, "PenFed is proud to expand our service to the Humacao community and all of Puerto Rico. The best way to serve Puerto Rico is by creating jobs and helping people achieve their financial dreams. PenFed continues to invest in the people of Puerto Rico."

The new financial center is set to provide a comprehensive array of services to its members. Among these are various loan products, checking and savings accounts, credit cards, and live teller services. The center operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM AST and on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM AST. This accessibility is designed to cater to the financial needs of the local community more efficiently than ever before.

Humacao is not the only location PenFed is serving in Puerto Rico. The credit union also operates financial centers in strategic areas including San Juan, Hatillo, Ponce, Mayagüez, and the United States Army Garrison at Fort Buchanan. Additionally, in 2022, PenFed established a Bilingual Service Center in Guaynabo, reflecting its efforts to meet the diverse needs of the regional population.

In an ambitious initiative aimed at fostering financial literacy among the youth, PenFed has partnered with EVERFI, a prominent educational organization, for the past five years. This collaboration has allowed the credit union to deliver essential financial education technology to over 4,000 K-12 students across 27 schools in Puerto Rico, completely free of charge. The curriculum provided teaches students valuable skills in making informed financial decisions, which include lessons on savings and checking, maintaining healthy credit, planning for significant purchases, investing for the future, and preparing for higher education.

Membership with PenFed is required to access the products and services provided at the financial center, but the membership process is open to all interested individuals. Through its commitment to the community and strategic initiatives, PenFed aims to create not just a financial resource, but a catalyst for economic growth and personal development throughout Puerto Rico.

Established in 1935, PenFed Credit Union has grown into one of America's largest financial cooperatives, currently serving nearly three million members globally with assets totaling approximately $31 billion. The scope of PenFed's services is wide-ranging and includes market-leading accounts, credit cards, personal loans, mortgages, automobile loans, and many more financial services, all designed with the best interests of its members in mind.
