Introducing FASTALERT: New Tsunami Detection Feature to Enhance Disaster Preparedness

JX Press Corporation Unveils FASTALERT's New Tsunami Feature

In a major step towards enhancing disaster preparedness, JX Press Corporation, a Tokyo-based media venture, has officially rolled out a significant update to its risk information service, FASTALERT. This new feature aims to deliver timely tsunami alerts while enabling users to quickly assess the potential impact on specific locations.

Overview of the Update

The first phase of this update, launched today, introduces a real-time mapping function that visualizes tsunami warnings, including major tsunami alerts, advisory alerts, and cautionary notices. Users can now see which coastal areas are at risk based on information provided by Japan's Meteorological Agency. Moreover, when alerts are elevated, users receive supplementary information that allows for more accurate understanding and response to threats.

New Functionalities:

1. Real-Time Tsunami Information Visualization:
The update provides real-time mapping of tsunami warnings, highlighting the affected coastal areas with color coding. It allows for the prompt identification of impact zones during crucial events like earthquakes.

2. Pinpoint Alert System:
Users can register their own company locations or those of their clients to receive automated alerts regarding which locations are in the warning zone, down to municipality-level detail. An email list feature allows for rapid dissemination of this critical information.

FASTALERT is already recognized as a vital tool for Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Supply Chain Management (SCM), yet the need for precise Impact Zone identification during extensive weather warnings has been a pressing issue. The updates address feedback following incidents like last year’s Kamchatka earthquake, where long-term warnings made it difficult to determine which sites required immediate attention.

Enhancing Initial Response

By automating the identification of at-risk locations, the new FASTALERT feature is set to improve response times during large-scale disasters. It not only provides macro-level data but also integrates detailed micro-information sourced from social media and analyzed by AI and a team of experts. This combination equips businesses and organizations with a clearer basis for decision-making during emergencies.

Looking ahead, the service is set to continue its evolution with planned updates to accommodate new meteorological disaster information systems expected by May 2026, alongside enhanced visual capabilities for typhoon data. JX Press is committed to supporting clients in navigating various risk situations effectively.

Upcoming Initiatives

To further aid businesses in adapting to impending changes, JX Press recently hosted a free webinar focusing on the implications of the Japanese Meteorological Agency's new disaster information systems. The webinar featured experts explaining necessary adaptations for firms’ disaster response manuals and triggers. Given the success of this seminar, an archive will be made available for additional viewing.
