Celebrating 150 Years of Mie Prefecture with Local Treats in a Special Fair

Special Fair Celebrating Mie Prefecture

Seven-Eleven Japan, led by President Tomohiro Akutsu, is excited to announce the launch of the Mie Prefecture 150th Anniversary x 20th Anniversary Fair from April 17 (Friday) to May 3 (Sunday). This event will be held at Seven-Eleven outlets in Aichi, Gifu, and Mie prefectures, celebrating not only the long history of Mie Prefecture's governance but also the 20th anniversary of Seven-Eleven's presence in the region.

This fair will showcase a variety of products featuring locally sourced ingredients from Mie and menu items that reflect the region's culinary traditions. Notably, several of the products were developed in cooperation with students from Toshi Elementary School in Toba City, who participated in a series of classes focused on product ideation. This initiative aims to provide consumers with a taste of Mie's rich local flavor while promoting local consumption and revitalizing the community.

Moreover, for each participating product sold, one yen will be donated to children’s support activities in Mie Prefecture, emphasizing a commitment to social responsibility and community welfare.

Collaboration with Local Elementary School Students

In a unique twist, this fair involves a collaboration with Toshi Elementary School located on Toshi Island. Over three sessions, students shared their insights and ideas on product development, ultimately culminating in the creation of three distinct items. The progression included sessions focused on brainstorming the best ways to market the products and included video recordings aimed at effectively communicating their messages to potential customers.

The children's desire to bring the island's rich culinary offerings to a wider audience is central to the fair's theme, making this collaboration a standout feature of the event.

Focus on Local Production and Consumption

Seven-Eleven has made a significant commitment to local production for local consumption, focusing on spotlighting each region's unique food culture and actively utilizing local ingredients. By using high-quality regional materials, the company aims to showcase the locality's culinary allure while stimulating the local economy.

The year 2026 marks a monumental 150th anniversary since Mie Prefecture's establishment in 1876, alongside the celebration of Seven-Eleven’s initial store opening in the region, making this fair a heartfelt tribute to the community. With a focus on Mie's bounteous natural resources, the event promises an enjoyable way for customers to incorporate local flavors into their everyday purchases.
