Volunteer for a Cause: Join Us in Torres del Paine
Las Torres Patagonia, a leading tourism company, in partnership with SKY Airline, has officially kicked off the third edition of its
10 Volunteers for 10 Days campaign, a unique initiative that not only promotes eco-tourism but also allows participants to contribute actively to preserving one of nature's most beautiful areas. This year’s volunteers will engage in the restoration of the iconic Base Torres Viewpoint trails in the picturesque Torres del Paine National Park, with all travel expenses covered by the organizers.
A Step Toward Conservation
The 2026 edition aims to inaugurate the first phase of a regeneration project that will introduce 3.3 kilometers (2.05 miles) of newly constructed trails, designed to manage both pedestrian and equestrian traffic, thereby enhancing safety and the overall visitor experience. This division is critical given the increasing popularity of the Base Torres trail, known for its breathtaking geological formations and diverse flora and fauna. By improving access and minimizing environmental impact, this project not only serves tourists but also plays an essential role in long-term conservation efforts.
As stated by Josian Yaksic, CEO of Las Torres Patagonia, "This campaign exemplifies participatory tourism that is deeply rooted in land stewardship. It marks a significant milestone in constructing 3.3 kilometers of infrastructure that enhances safety, visitor enjoyment, and environmental protection."
How to Get Involved
Eligible participants must be over 21 years old and reside in either Chile, Brazil, the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom. To enter, individuals can submit a brief video of no more than 45 seconds through Instagram Stories. The application process is straightforward: by tagging both Las Torres Patagonia and SKY Airline, candidates can share their passion for sustainability with the organizers.
Applications are open until February 20, 2026, after which a selection committee will choose the ten lucky winners. Those selected will enjoy round-trip airfare to Puerto Natales and a five-night stay at Hotel Las Torres, located in the heart of the national park. Participants will not only excavate trails but also partake in guided excursions, allowing them to immerse themselves in the allure of Chilean Patagonia.
Learning From Previous Editions
The campaign has seen growing interest since its inception, with the previous edition attracting approximately 1,000 video submissions. Winners have actively contributed to the construction of 67.1 meters (220 feet) of new trail, benefiting from the chance to learn practical skills in trail maintenance. Volunteers performed vital tasks like vegetation removal and proper trail shaping techniques essential for adequate drainage, addressing issues such as erosion that impede the natural landscape.
Additionally, 206.7 meters (678 feet) of existing trail was maintained, ensuring that visitor access remains safe and effective. Such initiatives contribute significantly to preserving the national park's natural beauty and ensuring that visitors experience its wonders responsibly and sustainably.
A Partnership Committed to Sustainability
The collaboration between Las Torres Patagonia and SKY Airline underscores a shared commitment to sustainable tourism practices. The airline has reported a significant reduction in emissions over the last five years, totaling over 1.2 million tons of CO₂. Mayra Kohler, the Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at SKY, emphasized that the airline's long-term strategy is rooted in promoting responsible development models that integrate tourism and environmental stewardship.
As the
10 Volunteers for 10 Days campaign continues to evolve, it highlights the critical role of community involvement in conservation efforts. By fostering a deeper connection between individuals and nature, it inspires future generations to appreciate and protect our planet's unique ecosystems.
