Empowering Kids to Rise Above Bullying and Embrace Kindness

A Movement Rooted in Dreams

In a world where bullying continues to plague children, two remarkable women have embarked on a journey to inspire a generation to rise above hate and embrace kindness. Michele Young and Patti Collins, driven by the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., have founded "The Land of the Superheroes," a program designed to foster a supportive community where kindness reigns and bullying becomes a thing of the past.

The Genesis of an Idea

The genesis of this movement can be traced back to the teachings of Dr. King and the heroes of the 1960s who fought tirelessly for equality and justice. Recognizing the need for change in today’s society, Young and Collins have taken it upon themselves to cultivate an environment where children can feel safe and valued for who they are, beyond their skin color.

Young, a lawyer with a background in social justice advocacy, has lengthy experience in fighting for the rights of children. Her collaboration with Collins, a former cheerleader for the Cincinnati Bengals and a passionate activist against bullying, represents a potent alliance aimed at making history repeat itself—in a positive, transformative way.

Vision and Mission

The Land of the Superheroes aims to create a culture in which every child dreams big and has the support to achieve those dreams. In a world fraught with negative influences, they endeavor to spread a message of love, courage, and unity. Inspired by the creativity of the '60s, the initiative employs music, dance, and art to engage and motivate young hearts.

Both women were molded by the same influences in their childhood. Young recalls her time in New York, where Dr. King’s message instilled a sense of hope and purpose within her. Collins, growing up in Ohio, also felt the impact of MLK's teachings. Their paths converged in Cincinnati, a moment that sparked not just a partnership but a dedicated mission: to reach children everywhere with the powerful message that they can be superheroes in their own right.

A Vision in Action

One of the fruits of their labor is their latest creative endeavor—a video titled "Land of Superheroes: Where Children Soar and Bullying Is No More." Produced with the help of FUNK TROPOLIS, this heartwarming visual showcases their mission while exemplifying the spirit of unity.

The video features the theme song composed by the legendary Bootsy Collins, Patti's husband. The collaboration with the Bootsy Collins Foundation emphasizes the significance of this initiative, aiming to touch the hearts of as many children as possible. The video will debut on MLK Day at Cincinnati Music Hall as part of a special jubilee celebrating King’s Beloved Community children’s program.

Shaping the Future

Young and Collins understand that significant change begins with education and advocacy. They emphasize that legislative solutions are only a step toward creating a lasting impact. As highlighted by the tragic case of Gabriel Taye, a young boy who lost his life due to bullying, societal change must accompany legal frameworks to foster true understanding and empathy among children.

As they venture into communities as far as Compton, California, and beyond, they carry with them the burning hope that every child can live without fear. Their movement is not merely a campaign; it is a heartfelt call to action aimed at transforming the broader landscape into one where bullying is obsolete.

Collins shares, "As a child influenced by leaders like Dr. King, my wish is to inspire a world where every child thrives. Together with Michele, I hope to inspire real change, one child at a time."

Young adds, "We cannot let laws be our only measure; we must change how we think and act, nurturing a society that celebrates individuality and character over appearance."

In this pursuit of harmony, Young and Collins invite everyone to join them, uplifting children into a future powered by positivity, support, and boundless possibilities—where indeed every child can soar.
