Fuji TV has recently announced the premiere of a new drama titled
Lies Are Lies (Japanese title: 嘘が嘘で嘘は嘘だ), scripted by the highly regarded Miku Ubukata. Best known for her previous hits such as
silent,
Ichi Ban Suki na Hana, and
Umi no Hajimari, Ubukata delivers yet another compelling narrative that explores the multifaceted nature of lies, set against the backdrop of Christmas.
This exciting drama will be exclusively available on Fuji TV's streaming service, FOD, starting December 24, 2025, at midnight, with all four episodes being released simultaneously. Following the online release, the series will air on terrestrial television beginning January 11, 2026, at 11:15 PM.
Storyline and Theme
Lies Are Lies delves into the intricate web of human relationships and the reasons people fabricate lies—be they innocent, harmful, or trivial. The story presents a unique narrative shaped around a Christmas Eve setting, where various characters navigate their lives filled with deception and the quest for truth. The central character, Mitsuko Ohmori, played by renowned actress Rinko Kikuchi, has endured a string of misfortunes since her divorce, searching for solace amid the chaos spurred by lies.
The drama also features Ryo Nishikido as Mitsuko's ex-husband, Kōsuke Kobayashi, and Pistol Takehara portrays the self-proclaimed detective Masayoshi Namiki. The character of Nobu Nakamura, an alleged marriage scam artist, is played by Eiku Shiono. A significant addition to the cast is Seina Nakata, who plays Mariko Yoda, the woman whose affair led to Mitsuko's divorce.
