Centrus Marks Major Production Milestone with HALEU Delivery to the DOE

Centrus Achieves Significant Production Milestone

Centrus Energy Corp. (NYSE American: LEU) has recently celebrated a notable achievement in the realm of nuclear fuel production. This milestone was marked by the successful delivery of 900 kilograms of High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU) to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), solidifying Centrus' position as a pioneer in innovative HALEU production techniques.

Amir Vexler, President and CEO of Centrus Energy, expressed the importance of this achievement, highlighting that, "Our technology's success in delivering results showcases our commitment to our customers and the nation's energy needs." With this delivery, Centrus has met its production goal for Phase II of its contract with the DOE, having, so far, delivered over 920 kilograms of HALEU under this agreement.

The increasing focus on advanced nuclear technology underscores the pressing need for HALEU, which is crucial for powering the next generation of reactors in the Western world. Centrus, being the sole source of HALEU enrichment within this market, plays a critical role in meeting the surging demand for this type of enriched uranium. As Centrus shifts into Phase III of its contract with the DOE, it aims to not only fulfill existing obligations but also expand its operational capacity in Ohio, intending to address the diverse requirements for both HALEU and Low-Enriched Uranium used by current reactor fleets.

On June 20, 2025, Centrus further secured its position by announcing an extension to its contract with the DOE for an additional year of HALEU production, lasting through June 30, 2026. Furthermore, Phase III of the contract outlines options for up to eight more years of production, contingent on the availability of appropriations and the DOE's discretion. This extension marks a significant forward momentum for Centrus, considering it initiated its contract with the DOE in 2019.

Phase I of the contract concluded in 2023, during which Centrus successfully transitioned its innovative centrifuge technology into operation in Piketon, Ohio, cumulatively producing an initial 20 kilograms of HALEU for the DOE. The completion of Phase II, as mandated by the DOE, involved meeting the target of producing 900 kilograms by the end of June 2025, a goal that Centrus has notably achieved ahead of schedule.

The HALEU produced under this contract is owned by the DOE and is poised to contribute significantly to advancing national priorities, including the demonstration and commercialization of HALEU-fueled reactors that could play a pivotal role in America’s clean energy future.
