Strengthening Hearing Support Collaboration Between Okayama University and Oticon's Global Leadership
On September 19, 2025, Dr. Sebastien Santurette, the Head of Audiology Research at the global hearing aid manufacturer Oticon, came to Okayama to strengthen collaborative efforts in hearing support with local authorities and Okayama University. This visit highlights the university’s commitment to advancing hearing health strategies in the region, particularly in light of the ongoing challenges presented by hearing impairments among children and the elderly.
Dr. Santurette's visit began with a tour of the Okayama Kanariya Gakuen, Japan's first preschool for children with hearing impairments. The center, which opened a new building in 2022, currently serves over 80 children. During this visit, Dr. Santurette reviewed various facilities, including examination and training rooms, gaining insights into the practical applications of hearing aids and cochlear implants in early childhood education. Discussions with staff highlighted the challenges of inclusive education in Japan, as well as local initiatives like Okayama Prefecture's
