IKO's New Granule Facility in Missouri
On June 26, 2025, IKO, an esteemed leader in manufacturing roofing and waterproofing products, celebrated a milestone event with the groundbreaking of a new granule facility in Bismarck, Missouri. This facility, a significant investment exceeding $120 million, is designed to directly supply granules to IKO's shingle plants across the southern United States.
The event was attended by various state and local dignitaries, who gathered to witness this pivotal expansion. Governor Mike Kehoe emphasized the importance of this facility, stating that it reinforces Missouri's reputation as a prime destination for businesses. He noted that Missouri is known for its hardworking workforce and favorable business climate, making it an attractive option for manufacturers like IKO.
IKO, recognizing Bismarck's potential, chose this location due to its strategic central positioning, excellent interstate connectivity, and most importantly, its highly skilled workforce. The new granule facility will also contribute to the local economy by creating more than 50 new jobs.
David Koschitzky, CEO of IKO North America, expressed pride in this new addition to their operations, highlighting that it aligns with their long-term strategy for enhancing vertical integration. He stated, “Bismarck offers the right combination of location and resources to support our long-term goals.” This facility is set to enhance supply chain efficiency and help IKO cater to the increasing demands of their manufacturing network in the U.S.
The project, in collaboration with partners like New Frontier Materials for feedstock supply and engineering firm PENTA for project support, is part of IKO’s broader expansion strategy. The firm aims to strengthen its operational capabilities while keeping pace with market demands.
As Bismarck Mayor Seth Radford noted, IKO's investment represents not just new employment opportunities but a vote of confidence in the community's potential. Local leaders, including St. Francois County’s Presiding Commissioner Harold Gallaher, echoed similar sentiments, expressing excitement about the economic opportunities this facility will bring.
Michelle Hataway, Director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development, also highlighted the impacts on the state's manufacturing sector, stating that this investment is a significant boost to the local economy and aligns with Missouri's strengths as a business-friendly location.
The facility, which encompasses a spacious 220,000 square feet, will include storage domes and a dedicated rail area to facilitate efficient operations. With a targeted opening date in late 2026, IKO aims to have this facility operational, further enhancing its capabilities in the U.S. roofing market.
In summary, IKO’s groundbreaking event marks an important step for both the company and the local community in Bismarck. The strategic investments made here not only illustrate the company’s commitment to growth but also highlight the collaborative efforts of local authorities to create a thriving industrial environment. The anticipated positive impacts of this facility will resonate in the community for years to come, symbolizing a bright future for all stakeholders involved.
