Huawei and SchneiTec Launch the World's First TÜV SÜD-Certified Energy Storage Project

In a remarkable achievement for the renewable energy sector, Huawei Digital Power has teamed up with SchneiTec to unveil the world's first TÜV SÜD-certified grid-forming energy storage project in Cambodia. This groundbreaking initiative signifies a pivotal step toward sustainable energy solutions in the region, aiming to promote a more reliable and efficient power grid.

The project features a robust energy storage system (ESS) with a total capacity of 12 MWh, which includes a dedicated 2 MWh testing unit designed to validate Huawei's innovative ESS Smart String Grid-Forming technology. This system has proven capable of stabilizing the electrical grid under a variety of challenging conditions, including isolated environments and weak networks, thus facilitating the seamless integration of intermittent renewable energy sources like solar and wind.

Achieving TÜV SÜD certification confirms that this energy storage solution meets stringent international standards for energy management and grid stability. The independent testing carried out by TÜV SÜD, a globally recognized authority, assessed critical technical capabilities of Huawei's technology, including inertia response, voltage tolerance, frequency support, and overload performance.

Key Highlights from the Testing

1. Inertia Response: Huawei's grid-forming technology excelled in inertia response, achieving a time constant range (Tj) of 3 to 20 seconds, significantly surpassing the standard requirement of 3 to 12 seconds. This capability enables faster grid stabilization, which is crucial during power fluctuations.

2. Voltage Tolerance: The energy storage system effectively managed voltage fluctuations, maintaining grid stability even amid short-term voltage surges or drops. Remarkably, it remained operational over a wide voltage range from 5% to 130% of the nominal grid voltage.

3. Overload Support and Frequency Regulation: The energy storage solution exhibited reliable performance under brief overload conditions of up to 300%. Moreover, it proficiently mitigated low-frequency oscillations within the 0.2 Hz to 5 Hz range, enhancing the overall stability of the power grid.

4. Black Start Capability: The technology allows for rapid black start under load, facilitating efficient restoration of the grid after complete power outages.

This achievement is not only a testament to the technological advancements by Huawei Digital Power but also a significant leap for energy innovation in Cambodia. As the nation gears up for a transition towards renewable energy sources, this project lays a solid groundwork for future scaling of energy capacity and infrastructure development.

As the roadmap for renewable energy unfolds in Cambodia, Huawei Digital Power remains committed to driving innovation. The company aims to provide stable, scalable, and reliable solutions that meet the increasing demand for sustainable electricity, thereby empowering the nation’s energy infrastructure development.

In collaboration with SchneiTec, renowned for developing Cambodia's largest solar power plant, this partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of green technology, enhancing energy security and environmental sustainability in the region. The successful commissioning of the energy storage project represents a turning point in Cambodia's journey towards a greener future.
