Introduction
In a significant advancement for agricultural management, Space Shift Inc., based in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward, has embarked on a promising demonstration project to utilize satellite data and AI technology to identify underutilized farmland in Yamanashi Prefecture. This initiative is part of the 9th phase of the TRY!YAMANASHI! demonstration experiment support project. The project aims to enhance the efficiency of farmland management for local governments by automatically detecting abandoned or underutilized farmland.
The Initiative
Space Shift has developed an innovative tool known as the "Underutilized Farmland Exploration AI." This tool leverages satellite data processing technology to automatically identify areas with neglected farmland, focusing particularly on orchards and agricultural regions in the Hokuto City area. Through this project, the company aims to improve detection accuracy significantly.
The project's primary objective is to enhance the local government’s ability to manage farmland by providing high-precision data regarding the conditions of agricultural lands. Not only does this support effective farming practices, but it also mitigates risks associated with rural wildlife encounters, such as bears, by reducing the need for physical assessments in hazardous areas.
