A Celebration of Life in Clay: Tamami Kubota's "Tama Mino Pottery"
The Otherwise Gallery, operated by Ash & Pear France in the trendy Omotesando area of Tokyo, will host a remarkable exhibition titled "Tama Mino Pottery" featuring the works of artist
Tamami Kubota from
November 21 to December 25, 2025. This exhibition will showcase Kubota's unique ceramic figurines crafted at
Koubeegama, a distinguished kiln in
Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, where she has been honing her craft since
2018.
Exploring New Artistic Dimensions
Tamami Kubota's journey as an artist traverses various mediums, including painting and paper-cutting. However, her encounter with clay marked a pivotal turn in her creative evolution. At Koubeegama, a kiln with a rich heritage dating back to
1804, she discovered the profound qualities of pottery – its flexibility, the serendipity of glazes, and the unique characters created by the kiln's flames. These elements breathe life into her works, resulting in vibrantly expressive pieces that invite viewers into a lively narrative.
The exhibition features a range of works, all celebrating the joy of living through whimsical ceramic figures elegantly navigating the boundaries between two-dimensional and three-dimensional art. With her bold strokes and storytelling prowess, Kubota showcases her new materials and artistic vision, expanding her creative horizons.
Featured Works from the Exhibition
Among the pieces displayed, notable works include:
- - "Saritote" - Ceramic / 2025 / dimensions: 75 × 115 × 45 mm
- - "Tsukikage no Niwa" - Ceramic and gold / 2025 / dimensions: 125 × 120 × 35 mm
- - "NanaIro" - Ceramic / 2025 / dimensions: 55 × 280 × 35 mm
- - "Holiday" - Ceramic / 2025 / dimensions: 200 × 65 × 8 mm
Kubota describes her artworks as celebrations of joy and freedom: "These cheerful and carefree ceramic figures express the joy of existence. The intricate process of creating each piece sharpens my primitive senses, drawing inspiration from earth, water, sun, and fire—a prayer in its own right. It is a hymn of life sung by the ceramic figures birthed from the soil of Mino and the flames of Koubeegama."

Otherwise Gallery will participate in the
