CIO Council of South Florida Welcomes New Leadership



The CIO Council of South Florida is proud to announce the appointment of Joe Hernandez as President and Tamecka McKay as Vice President, effective February 17, 2025. This leadership transition signals a new era for the Council, which serves as a crucial networking and knowledge-sharing platform for IT leaders throughout the region.

New Leadership Appointments



Joe Hernandez, currently serving as Vice President of Technology at FEAM Aero, brings an extensive background in technology leadership and digital transformation. With a career that spans across various industries, Hernandez has been a powerful advocate for leveraging technology to create substantial business value and improve organizational efficiency. He intends to use his role as President to expand the Council's influence and foster collaboration among technology leaders. A major part of his vision is to inspire future professionals by engaging with the local community and students. Hernandez is a regular speaker at national and international conferences and is an advisory board member at Florida International University, where he aids in shaping the next generation of IT professionals.

Tamecka McKay, the Council's new Vice President, serves as the Chief Information Officer of the City of Fort Lauderdale. McKay is known for her strong track record in IT governance, cybersecurity, and enterprise technology management. Her dedication to supporting and empowering technology professionals aligns with the Council’s mission to continually motivate CIOs and IT executives to excel in their fields. McKay is also a recognized speaker at numerous national events and was a recipient of the 2024 South Florida ORBIE award. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD, further enhancing her expertise in the technology sector.

The Council's Vision



Sanjay Deo, the Founder and Chair of the Board of Trustees for the CIO Council, expressed enthusiasm about the new appointments, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Joe Hernandez and Tamecka McKay to their new roles. Their leadership, vision, and industry expertise will be instrumental in guiding our organization as we continue to support the Information Technology community with thought leadership, networking opportunities, and knowledge sharing."

Deo also took the opportunity to thank Tony Casciotta, who has transitioned out of the presidency after serving for three years. Under Casciotta's leadership, the Council successfully navigated the complexities brought about during the COVID-19 pandemic and elevated the organization’s profile and initiatives.

The CIO Council of South Florida remains dedicated to fostering innovation and advancing technological growth in the area. They provide a premier learning and networking platform for IT leaders and promote professional development through various initiatives.

Over the past decade, the Council has awarded over $120,000 in educational scholarships to local high school students aspiring to pursue STEM education at colleges and universities. This commitment not only enhances educational opportunities but also contributes to building a vibrant community of tech professionals in South Florida.
