Neumont College of Computer Science Launches Cybersecurity & Data Protection Certificate Program

Neumont College of Computer Science, based in Salt Lake City, has officially launched its Cybersecurity & Data Protection Certificate program. This new initiative aims to equip students with essential skills for high-demand careers in the rapidly evolving fields of cybersecurity and information technology. The program spans 20 weeks and is offered entirely online, targeting working professionals, veterans transitioning to civilian roles, and those seeking a career shift.

The program's design focuses on hands-on, practical learning experiences, enabling students to earn 32 college credits while preparing for some of the most sought-after industry certifications, such as CompTIA A+, Security+, Network+, and CySA+. Throughout the curriculum, participants will gain practical experience with widely-used tools, including Wireshark, Kali Linux, Metasploit, and AWS, which are integral in real-world cybersecurity applications.

In addition to immediate skills acquisition, the program allows students who complete the full sequence of certifications to earn stackable credentials from CompTIA. This system validates their increasing knowledge and competence in IT and cybersecurity. The credentials include:
  • - IT Operations Specialist (CIOS): Completion of A+ and Network+.
  • - Secure Infrastructure Specialist (CSIS): Completion of A+, Network+, and Security+.
  • - Security Analytics Professional (CSAP): Completion of Security+ and CySA+.

President Aaron Reed emphasized that this program is more than just a bootcamp; it offers a structured, credit-bearing pathway for adult learners and career changers. With the program's full accessibility online and its asynchronous format, it fosters flexibility for those balancing work and study commitments.

The certificate is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), ensuring it meets high educational standards. Furthermore, financial aid options are available for eligible students, including federal financial aid and veterans’ education benefits. This makes it a more attainable option for many looking to break into or advance within the tech field.

“Cybersecurity isn’t a future need; it’s a current necessity,” explained Mo Reeder, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Neumont. He noted that the program was developed through close collaboration with employer partners, ensuring that graduates possess the practical skills that are highly valued in the workforce.

The program's tuition is set at $21,000, which encompasses comprehensive access to career services, including resume coaching and job placement assistance, provided by Neumont's dedicated Career Services team. The college is currently welcoming applications for its upcoming cohorts, reflecting strong demand for trained professionals in this vital sector.
