Animal Rescue Corps Collaborates with Local Police to Save Eight Neglected Pit Bulls

Rescue of Eight Pit Bulls in Jackson, Tennessee

On April 9, 2026, Animal Rescue Corps (ARC), a prominent nonprofit organization focused on animal welfare, successfully rescued eight pit bulls, including two puppies, from an abandoned property located in Jackson, Tennessee. This rescue was conducted in collaboration with the local police department under a warrant as part of a larger initiative known as Operation Left Behind.

Critical Conditions Found

The rescue team from ARC responded to a distress call received by the City of Jackson Police Department, which reported several dogs in neglectful circumstances. Upon arrival, the ARC responders, alongside local animal control officers, made a shocking discovery. They found two puppies confined within the house, while three adult dogs were tied up in the yard and an additional three were kept in wooden hutches.

The rescued dogs were severely underweight, suffering from dehydration and a range of injuries, including broken teeth and skin lesions. Adding to their plight, the property lacked basic needs; there was no food available, and the water they had access to was contaminated. Tim Woodward, Executive Director of ARC, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “Intervening when situations reach this point is critical to giving them a chance at recovery.”

Teamwork in Action

Due to a high volume of neglected animals, the Jackson Animal Care and Control team requested assistance from ARC, as they did not have the capacity to take in all the dogs at once. Without the intervention of these organizations, the canines were at risk of further suffering, or even death, due to the terrible living conditions they experienced. Whitney Owen, Director of Animal Services, noted a suspected connection to illegal dog breeding and possible dog fighting, indicating the severity of the previous owner’s actions.

A New Beginning

The rescued pit bulls were transported to the ARC Rescue Center located just outside of Nashville. Here, they are receiving thorough veterinary evaluations, essential vaccinations, and medical treatments. In addition, they are being provided with proper nutrition and safe shelter to facilitate their recovery.

ARC’s mission is not only to save animals but also to educate the public and provide resources for communities to prevent such abuse from occurring. To support these ongoing efforts and learn more about their initiatives, individuals are encouraged to visit animalrescuecorps.org.

About Animal Rescue Corps

Established in 2010, Animal Rescue Corps has dedicated itself to rescuing animals in desperate situations across the United States. The organization works in communities that often lack the necessary resources to combat animal homelessness and abuse. By promoting education alongside rescue operations, ARC aims to transform societal attitudes towards animal welfare. Recently, in 2025, Tim Woodward was recognized as a CNN Hero of the Year finalist, underscoring the impactful work being undertaken by ARC.

The plight of these eight pit bulls serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding animal neglect and abuse. However, initiatives like those taken by ARC provide a glimmer of hope for these vulnerable creatures. Community engagement and cooperation between organizations are paramount in the fight against animal neglect.
