India Chosen as Host for the International Karman Week 2025 Space Event

India to Host Karman Week 2025

The Karman Project, a global foundation dedicated to promoting peace and cooperation in space, has officially announced that its flagship event, Karman Week 2025, will take place in Bangalore, India. This prestigious gathering is set for October and will feature a lineup of 15 prominent leaders from the international aerospace community including astronauts, agency heads, and industry executives. The event aims to spark strategic dialogue, cultural exchange, and showcase groundbreaking innovations.

Leading this year is SatSure, a pioneering Earth Intelligence firm known for its advancements in satellite data analytics. Prateep Basu, the founder and CEO of SatSure, has a commendable history with the Karman Project, having been named a Karman Fellow in 2020. Under his fellowship commitment, Basu initiated SatSure Sparta, an internal project aimed at facilitating the use of Earth observation data while promoting financial integration for Indian smallholder farmers. This partnership underscores a shared mission to elevate cross-sector initiatives in space.

Hannah Ashford, CEO of the Karman Project, remarked on India's critical role in leveraging space technologies to tackle real-world challenges such as agriculture, climate resilience, and disaster management. “With our fellowship in Bangalore, we can engage directly in purposeful innovation, connecting our global leaders with one of the most dynamic and mission-oriented space ecosystems in the world,” she stated.

Bangalore stands out as India's technological hub, hosting the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and an enhancing startup ecosystem. Karman Week 2025 will highlight India's essential contributions in the realm of public-private partnerships and climate-focused space applications. The program will feature direct interactions with the Indian space sector, cultural activities, and eco-friendly retreats designed for executives. These immersive experiences are aimed at fostering trust and enhancing collaborative efforts across different sectors and borders.

Prateep Basu emphasized the significance of this event, stating, “Karman Week 2025 is a critical moment for India’s space ecosystem. It is an opportunity to showcase innovations - particularly in space data and artificial intelligence - that tackle global challenges related to agriculture, climate, and sustainable development on a large scale.” His personal journey as a Karman Fellow illustrated the real value of cross-border cooperation, inspiring participants to promote dialogues that translate visions into tangible results.

The Karman Week also marks a remarkable occasion amidst a series of significant milestones for India’s space endeavors in 2025 — celebrating the 100th launch from its primary spaceport, hosting the Global Space Research Conference in New Delhi, achieving satellite docking maneuvers (a feat accomplished by only three other nations), and the groundbreaking mission of ISRO astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla as the first Indian to visit the International Space Station. Each of these achievements consolidates the nation’s strengths in both technical prowess and international collaboration.

With the formation of the partnership between Karman and SatSure, the Indian private space sector is setting a bold precedent for fostering international cooperation, building on ISRO’s legacy of peaceful space utilization.

Now in its sixth edition, Karman Week has previously taken place in locations such as the United Arab Emirates, France, the Maldives, and Bulgaria. The event remains accessible exclusively by invitation and is designed to deepen collaboration among the leading aerospace actors worldwide. Further information about the program will be released throughout the year.
