ForwardX Celebrates a Milestone in AMR Implementation at Chery's Dalian Factory
Celebrating a Year of AMR Success at Chery's Dalian Factory
ForwardX Robotics has marked a significant milestone with the completion of one year of operations involving their autonomous mobile robots (AMR) at Chery's automotive manufacturing facility in Dalian, China. This collaboration has fundamentally transformed the internal logistics within the factory, particularly within the welding and final assembly workshops, underlining the potential of robotics in high-volume production settings.
In the assembly of vehicles, ensuring a constant supply of materials is crucial for maintaining production line stability. The integration of 435 AMRs into Chery's production system has significantly improved logistics efficiency. Currently, over 270 robots are fully operational, managing the essential task of transporting thousands of components throughout the factory to ensure seamless operations.
The deployment of AMRs within Chery's manufacturing process has been strategically divided between two main production areas. In the welding workshop, 121 AMRs are tasked with automating the delivery of crucial parts used in the body assembly operations, while in the final assembly workshop, 150 AMRs facilitate the movement of components and parts between various production stations. This smart allocation of robots has drastically cut down on manual transport and improved operational efficiency across the board.
In the welding workshop, the robotic system has automated the delivery of 32 different parts, addressing over 50% of the material demand in that area. Meanwhile, the final assembly workshop relies on AMRs to manage the supply of 95 unique components, which equates to nearly 80% of the necessary materials for the assembly line. Such advancements allow the robots to operate with a high degree of autonomy and reliability, ensuring that material flow remains consistent throughout the production cycle.
The sophisticated technology used by ForwardX's fourth-generation AMRs merges vision-based navigation with an intelligent fleet orchestration system. This technology enables the robots to expertly navigate the complexities of a manufacturing environment while dynamically coordinating transportation tasks across multiple workshops.
According to Nicolas Chee, founder and CEO of ForwardX Robotics, "Scaling automation in automotive manufacturing requires long-term operational reliability. Over the past year, our implementation has demonstrated how autonomous mobile robots can maintain stable material flows in complex production environments."
The impact of integrating AMRs has been extensively positive, significantly decreasing the manual transportation needs within the factory. This enhancement in internal logistics aids the broader manufacturing operations by not only increasing efficiency but also by optimizing labor allocation for higher-value tasks.
As the ForwardX automation system continues to scale and reach full optimization by the end of the year, it is poised to further streamline internal transport workflows, heralding a new era of operational efficiency at Chery's Dalian facility. The successful one-year operation period illustrates the viability of large-scale mobile robotic implementations in fostering long-term operational stability within high-volume manufacturing contexts.
