LUCENT's K.L.V Installation Wins Gold at Japan Space Design Awards 2025

LUCENT's K.L.V Installation Wins Gold

Renowned for its innovative artistic contributions, LUCENT has recently achieved a remarkable milestone by receiving the coveted Gold Award in the Entertainment Space category at the Japan Space Design Awards 2025. This recognition was awarded for their striking installation, K.L.V (Kinetic Light Vision), showcased at the Shiga Prefecture booth during the Osaka-Kansai Expo, thus solidifying LUCENT's status as a pioneer in light art.

Takahiro Matsuo, the creative force behind LUCENT and an esteemed light artist based in Ginza, Tokyo, has crafted the K.L.V installation to offer a mesmerizing experience. The piece features a unique array of translucent acrylic spheres, each meticulously suspended by fine wires. These spheres serve as the focal point of a dynamic light display, wherein specially designed lighting illuminates the spheres, creating a fascinating visual ballet of light and color that resonates with nature and culture of Shiga.

The installation is not only a feast for the eyes but aims to engage visitors from all walks of life, echoing the beauty of Japan's natural landscapes and aesthetic sensibilities. By blending physical motion and color into a unified space, K.L.V reads like an intuitive pictogram, offering all Expo attendees a deeper understanding of Japan’s environmental beauty. From simulated waterfalls to moonlit lakes, and vibrant fireworks, each element of K.L.V is thoughtfully crafted to reflect Shiga’s splendors.

About the Installation K.L.V

The K.L.V installation is described as the world's first immersive art device, a title it carries with great pride. Developed exclusively by LUCENT, this groundbreaking piece uses advanced technology to create lifelike representations of natural phenomena. Each acrylic sphere, measuring just 0.27mm in diameter, is suspended with precision and illuminated from below with a unique spotlight that has an exceptionally narrow angle of just 0.2 degrees. This intricate setup allows the spheres to emit a smooth, floating light, generating a captivating experience while showcasing an array of visual forms and color expressions.

This pioneering effort has garnered not just awards but also significant acclaim from various stakeholders involved in its conception and execution. The project was facilitated by renowned project management from Toppan Corporation, with creative direction led by Matsuo himself. The collaboration included talented visual directors and photographers, further enhancing the overall presentation.

Gratitude is extended towards all partners and collaborators who contributed to this creative journey. Matsuo states, “We hope that this award serves as inspiration to continue challenging ourselves to create extraordinary art.”
