The All Japan Nishikigoi Promotion Association is preparing for a significant event in the koi community—the
55th All Japan Nishikigoi Show. Scheduled for
January 25-26, 2025, at the Tokyo Ryutsu Center, this prestigious show represents a hallmark of excellence in the world of Nishikigoi, also known as ornamental koi carp.
This year’s event is expected to be remarkable, as it will not only showcase the best of Nishikigoi but will also be a battleground for breeders and enthusiasts from various regions, including

Southeast Asia, and
India. With previous competitions yielding bids that reached up to
200 million yen (approximately
1.28 million dollars), the stakes are incredibly high as everyone vies for the coveted title of ‘Best Nishikigoi’.
Evolution of the Nishikigoi Show
The history of this national breeding competition dates back to the
1960s, providing a platform for top Nishikigoi breeders to present their finest specimens. Over the decades, the show has evolved significantly, producing koi reaching lengths of about one meter that consistently compete for the prestigious title of
Grand Champion.
The selection process to determine the best koi is akin to a world championship for Nishikigoi; it’s a dazzling spectacle where the finest breeders showcase their hard work and passion.
