Consumers Energy Launches Major Pipeline Project to Enhance Natural Gas Delivery in Metro Area

Consumers Energy Breaks Ground on the Four Cities Metro Pipeline Project

In a move to modernize its infrastructure, Consumers Energy has initiated the Four Cities Metro Pipeline project, which will involve more than eight miles of natural gas pipeline upgrades through Oakland and Macomb counties. This critical project will not only enhance the safety and reliability of natural gas delivery but also support economic growth within local communities.

Overview of the Project

The newly planned pipeline will traverse the cities of Royal Oak, Clawson, Madison Heights, and Warren. This infrastructure enhancement is long overdue; some sections of the pipeline date back to the 1950s. By the end of the project, roughly 750,000 homes and businesses in the area will benefit from modern, more efficient, and safer gas delivery systems.

As part of the 2026 construction phase, the project will focus on Royal Oak, Clawson, and Warren initially, allowing for critical upgrades that can support future energy demands.

Commitment to Infrastructure and Community

Holly Bowers, the vice president of natural gas engineering and supply at Consumers Energy, emphasized the significance of this project.
