Exploring the ‘7 Wonders of Future Cities’ Initiative
On October 31, 2025, coinciding with World Cities Day, New7Wonders unveiled its latest global initiative,
7 Wonders of Future Cities. This campaign seeks to honor and spotlight urban development projects around the globe that encapsulate the spirit of innovation, sustainability, and human advancement that will define future cities.
A Global Call for Submissions
As of today, the submission and application phase of this exciting campaign officially begins. Over the next year, cities, neighborhoods, and large-scale projects from across the world will be invited to present themselves for consideration, showcasing their achievements in areas such as technology, design, quality of life, and environmental sustainability. This initiative not only emphasizes the importance of innovation but also places a strong focus on engagement and participation from the public throughout the entire process.
Bernard Weber, president and founder of New7Wonders, articulates the broader mission behind this initiative: "With
7 Wonders of Future Cities, we are expanding our objective from honoring humanity’s heritage to celebrating its horizons. The wonders of the future are being built today through the decisions, creativity, and courage of today’s urban visionaries."
A Platform for Discussion
Jean-Paul de la Fuente, director of New7Wonders and chair of this campaign, elaborates, stating, "Today marks the beginning of a global conversation about what truly makes a city 'future-oriented.' It is about how innovation serves humanity and how imagination can reconnect progress with meaning."
He further adds that the initiative serves to honor cities and developments daring to dream and design a better balance between nature, community, and growth.
The Campaign Timeline
Following the current proposal and application phase that can be accessed via
www.7wondersfc.com, a global voting phase will commence on October 31, 2026. This phase will culminate with the announcement of the
7 Wonders of Future Cities on October 31, 2027. Throughout these phases, public participation remains at the forefront, adhering to New7Wonders' well-established methodology.
Beyond 600 Million Votes
This initiative joins the ranks of global, thematic, and national campaigns previously run by New7Wonders, such as the New 7 Wonders of the World and New 7 Wonders of Nature, both of which have collectively garnered over 600 million votes. The
Wonder Effect, validated through independent studies, highlights the socioeconomic and marketing benefits arising from participating destinations. The educational value generated through this initiative translates into multi-billion-dollar benefits for the involved regions.
In summary, the
7 Wonders of Future Cities aims to celebrate not just what cities are today, but what they can become through innovation and visionary planning. This initiative promises to be a defining moment in showcasing extraordinary urban achievements that contribute positively to our ever-evolving metropolitan landscapes.
