e-dash Corporation, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo and led by CEO Tohma Yamazaki, has announced its role as the management organization for the Ministry of the Environment's project aimed at promoting decarbonization across the entire value chain. This initiative, known as the '2026 Decarbonization Promotion Model Project', invites participation from various companies and industry organizations, with the application window running from May 18 to June 15, 2026.
Background and Project Overview
To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, it is essential not only to reduce direct emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) from operations but also to address supply chain emissions (Scope 3). This requires obtaining primary data from partner companies and promoting emission reductions. However, many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) face challenges regarding the necessity and methods for calculating emissions.
In light of this, the project aims to strengthen collaborative efforts throughout the value chain to promote Scope 3 reductions. This will involve creating a unified framework for emissions calculations and engagement strategies. Additionally, e-dash will explore innovative decarbonization measures beyond traditional energy-saving approaches, while also considering ways to enhance the efficiency and automation of Scope 3 calculations and primary data acquisition through digital technologies.
Leveraging extensive previous support experience, e-dash is committed to providing practical insights and expertise while facilitating connections among all stakeholders involved in achieving decarbonization, including both large and small enterprises. The ultimate goal is to construct a decarbonization scheme that is both effective and sustainable, thereby supporting Japanese companies in their self-sustaining decarbonization management, helping them contribute to carbon neutrality by 2050.
Implementation Details
The model project will focus on two key areas for recruitment and support:
1.
Individual Value Chain Support
e-dash will assist lead companies in engaging their partner companies to address Scope 3 reduction barriers like the 'calculation burden on partners' and 'difficulty in collecting primary data'. This will facilitate smoother engagement activities. The organization will support everything from formulating engagement policies to devising effective reduction measures, and will also provide various cloud services to aid in creating a replicable framework through digital transformation.
2.
Industry Associations and Corporate Groups Support
e-dash will aid industry associations and leading company groups in establishing common rules for Scope 3 calculations and primary data acquisition, as well as in formulating engagement policies. The aim is to resolve inconsistencies in standards and calculation formats across industries, thus improving data sharing efficiency and fostering overall industry self-sufficiency. e-dash will thoroughly assist from issue identification based on industry characteristics to the systematic prioritization of emission coefficient selection, ensuring that common rules developed during the project will remain useful long after its conclusion.
