Transforming Trash into Entertainment: The Launch of Trash Party!

Get ready for an exciting new experience that merges sustainability with fun! From May 17 to 18, 2025, at Odaiba, Tokyo, the innovative Trash Party will take center stage as part of CHIMERA GAMES Vol.10. This unique initiative, developed in collaboration with CHIMERA Union by the creative minds at Hakuten, transforms the mundane act of trash disposal into a thrilling entertainment experience designed to engage and inspire.

A Festival of Experiences

CHIMERA GAMES is known for its immersive approach to events, combining sports, music, food, culture, and social issues into a grand festival that promotes a sense of community and shared joy. The tenth edition of this festival takes it a step further by emphasizing the themes of “emotional design,” “event creation,” and “social implementation.” The festival not only strives to entertain but also aims to experiment with user experience design in a meaningful context.

Background of the Initiative

Since 2016, Hakuten has been advocating for sustainability in Japan's advertising and event sectors. The company has been deeply involved in initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable community activities, and in 2021, it established a dedicated sustainability division. This division focuses on developing environmentally-conscious events that aim to balance meaningful experiences with reduced environmental impact. Their latest offering, Trash Party, is a prime example of this mission.

The Concept of Trash Party

The Trash Party reimagines the act of waste disposal by intertwining it with entertainment. At this event, the very act of sorting trash will create sounds that are transformed into real-time music during a DJ performance. Attendees will not only engage in the act of throwing away trash but also participate in a unique sensory experience where “sorting” becomes synonymous with “creating sound.”

The event introduces a mobile waste collection unit called the “Picking Bicycle,” which will roam the venue to collect trash while simultaneously gathering sounds to be used in creating “trash music.” This innovative approach promotes behavioral change by encouraging participants to reconsider their relationship with waste and its disposal.

Musical Athletic Area and Other Attractions

Apart from the Trash Party, the Musical Athletic Area will feature other exhilarating experiences:
  • - Sound Step On: An interactive sound area where walking on specially designed wooden boxes produces music, allowing participants to engage with sound through movement. It’s a captivating experience for all ages!
  • - Pump Up Drumming: In this engaging activity, attendees can watch balloons inflate in rhythm with their jumping, creating a lively beats and energy-filled environment where sound, light, and movement come together for a family-friendly experience.
