Exploring Science-Culture Integration at the China-Central Asia Forum 2026

The 2026 China-Central Asia Science Literacy Exchange Forum

On October 15, 2026, the 2026 China-Central Asia Science Literacy Exchange Forum took place at Xi'an Jiaotong University, marking a significant event in the ongoing dialogue between China and Central Asian nations. This forum, co-hosted by the China Science Writers Association (CSWA) along with the China Institute for Science Popularization (CRISP), Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Kyrgyz State Technical University, aimed to foster collaboration in scientific communication and education among these regions, under the theme "Science-Culture Integration, People-to-People Bonding."

Objectives of the Forum

The forum served as a platform to enhance science literacy across countries, underscoring the necessity of integrating scientific understanding with cultural exchanges. Wang Chunfa, the Chairman of CSWA, emphasized in his keynote address the importance of science literacy as a cornerstone for national innovation. As technology advances rapidly, the need for communities to coalesce around shared scientific and cultural values has never been more pressing.

The event featured various activities, including keynote speeches that explored talent development in both scientific and educational domains. Notably, a round-table discussion enabled experts from China and Central Asia to engage in dialogue about coordinated strategies for cultivating scientific talent among youth and improving public scientific literacy. This interactive session was moderated by Li Honglin, a researcher at CRISP, and involved practical case studies presented by five distinguished guests from both regions, addressing key areas like AI-empowered education and the establishment of joint laboratories along the Belt and Road.

Commitment to Collaboration

In alignment with the goals of the forum, Shao Jinyou, Vice President of Xi'an Jiaotong University, reiterated the university’s commitment to building a closer community between China and Central Asia that promotes a shared future. The integration of science and culture represents a critical path towards mutual understanding and cooperation, which is particularly essential in an era of globalization.

The discussions advanced proposals for the establishment of long-term communication mechanisms that would allow practitioners of science popularization to regularly meet, share experiences, and explore collaborative opportunities. This aims to not only enrich the scientific landscape but also to serve the public interest by enhancing awareness and understanding of science across diverse communities.

Future of Science Literacy in the Region

The outputs of the forum are expected to contribute towards the development of frameworks that can be instrumental in addressing the challenges of today's scientific discourse. Both Chinese and Central Asian participants left the forum with a renewed sense of purpose, motivated by the prospect of future collaborations that would elevate their collective scientific capabilities and literacy.

As the world continues to evolve, the integration of cultural insights into scientific exchanges remains a vital component. The 2026 forum stands as a testament to the commitment of both regions to embrace the future through collaborative efforts in science and cultural dialogue. Through these initiatives, the communities are setting the stage for a robust network dedicated to the advancement of science literacy and cultural enrichment.

The profound discussions held at this year’s forum highlight the potential for transformative alliances that not only transcend geographical boundaries but also bridge cultural gaps. Moving forward, continued engagement and cooperation in this domain are anticipated to flourish, laying the groundwork for enduring partnerships that advance science, education, and public awareness across Central Asia and beyond.
