Creating a Dreamy Bedtime Routine: Insights from Sega Fave's Survey

Filling the One-Hour Gap: Supporting Bedtime Routines

In today’s fast-paced society, parents often face challenges in establishing a calming bedtime routine for their children. A recent survey conducted by Sega Fave sheds light on these struggles and offers solutions in the form of their new product, the "Dream Switch Basic Set."

The Survey Unveiled

Sega Fave, located in Shinagawa, Tokyo, conducted a survey with 700 parents of children aged 1 to 7 to understand bedtime behaviors. The results were thought-provoking:
  • - One in four parents indicated they could not create the ideal calming conditions for their children before sleep, with 25.71% revealing they failed to establish a proper routine.
  • - The ideal bedtime for children was noted to be during the 8 PM hour, while the reality showed a significant drift to the 9 PM hour—indicating a one-hour gap between what is desired and what actually occurs.

This discrepancy has raised concerns about children’s sleep quality and overall well-being. Parents have shared feedback on various factors contributing to their bedtime challenges:
  • - Excitement and overactivity: A whopping 35.1% of parents noted that their children struggle to calm down at bedtime.
  • - Difficulty falling asleep: 24.5% of parents reported that their children take too long to fall asleep.
  • - Responsibilities: 14.9% mentioned that household chores or parents’ tasks delay the bedtime routine.
  • - Screen dependency: 13.8% admitted that dependency on digital screens such as TVs and tablets contributed to later bedtimes.

Addressing the Challenge

In response to these challenges, Sega Fave introduced the Dream Switch, a projector-based storybook designed to create a gentle bedtime routine. Released on October 23, 2025, the Dream Switch retails for 9,350 yen (tax included). This innovative tool aims to foster a peaceful atmosphere from the moment children enter their bedrooms until they fall asleep.

How the Dream Switch Works

The Dream Switch features a projector that displays stories on the ceiling or walls, helping create the perfect calming environment for bedtime. The product comes with 36 built-in contents, ranging from story readings to playful songs, animal names, stretching exercises, and soothing music, all designed to ease excitement and encourage dialogue between parents and children.

Since its launch in 2017, the Dream Switch has been embraced by many families, earning the title of a reliable ally for parenting. This latest version not only shifts the focus away from screens but also enriches bedtime with engaging activities that facilitate conversations like, "Which story should we start with tonight?"

The Ideal Bedtime Experience

The Dream Switch aims to bridge the gap between ideal and actual sleep patterns for children, supporting parents in establishing a bedtime routine that closely aligns with the optimal sleep window of 8 to 9 PM. It provides a variety of choices, making the bedtime routine something the entire family can look forward to each night, ultimately contributing to healthier sleep habits for children.

With such tools readily available, parents are better equipped to navigate the complexities of nighttime routines, ensuring that the hour before sleep is as soothing and joyful as it should be.
