The Japan Private Railway Association (JTPRA), led by president Ken Hiroshi Sugiyama and based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, is launching its latest edition of the "Regional Railway Travel Guide - A Journey on Our Hometown Railways" on July 27, 2026. This initiative aims to promote and invigorate the usage of 56 local private railway companies across Japan. In a move to enhance accessibility, the guide will be available free of charge throughout various locations nationwide.
Since its first publication in 2008, this travel guide has undergone annual revisions to ensure it remains a reliable source of current information. This year's guidebook highlights the unique charm of nostalgic regional railways with a focused feature titled "A Journey Exploring Retro Railways". It indicates a deep dive into the endearing train stations, scenic towns, and vintage train cars that evoke a sense of nostalgia for local travelers. Additionally, it presents the "Top 3 Local Railways You Should Know" showcasing captivating data about each participating company.
Safety and comfort driven by a shared passion for regions and community sustenance are underlying principles of this guide.
