Flex Unveils Cutting-Edge Power Management Solutions for NVIDIA's AI Infrastructure
At the recent OCP APAC event held in Taipei City, Flex, a global powerhouse in technology manufacturing, introduced a groundbreaking power shelf system designed specifically for the NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 platform. This system integrates 72 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs and aims to accelerate the implementation of 800 VDC (volts direct current) power architectures within the data center landscape, a vision shaped by the rising demands of artificial intelligence (AI) applications and AI-centric facilities.
Efficiency at a New Level
According to Chris Butler, President of Critical and Embedded Power at Flex, "As AI workloads push rack power systems to new levels, we are positioning ourselves to help data center operators navigate mounting challenges in power consumption, heat management, and scalability." The newly launched system is optimized for efficiency, enabling peak performance of 97.5% at half-load, marking a significant enhancement over conventional systems that typically exhibit higher energy conversion losses.
The power shelf system fundamentally shifts energy management within AI-driven data centers. With capabilities to deliver up to 33 kW per shelf within a compact, industry-standard footprint, it consists of six power supply units operating in a 3+3 redundant configuration. This setup not only minimizes heat production but also reduces cooling demands and energy expenses—a vital consideration in today's eco-conscious business environment.
A Step Towards 800 VDC Adoption
Perhaps most notably, the Flex power shelf system serves as a preparatory tool for the burgeoning 800 VDC data center infrastructure. This transition is critical for accommodating the extensive power requirements of megawatt-scale racks. Flex has committed to commencing full-scale production of 800 VDC components in parallel with the introduction of NVIDIA’s Kyber rack-scale systems, aiming to ensure a seamless integration pathway for companies venturing into more powerful AI frameworks.
The collaboration between Flex and NVIDIA exemplifies a shared commitment to enabling hyperscale data centers and colocation environments to leverage next-generation AI infrastructures swiftly and effectively. This collaboration is crucial as organizations increasingly embrace AI technologies that demand more robust computational resources.
