SheaMoisture and Walmart Launch Empowering Sheaversity at HBCU Campuses
This fall marks an exciting chapter as SheaMoisture and Walmart introduce Sheaversity on the Yard, a groundbreaking initiative that aims to revolutionize the way textured hair education is delivered to students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The Yard, traditionally known for being a vibrant hub of culture, community, and self-expression, will serve as the perfect backdrop for this educational experience.
Sheaversity on the Yard is set to visit five HBCUs: Virginia State University, Jackson State University, North Carolina Central University, Clark Atlanta University, and North Carolina A&T State University. This initiative aims to empower students by providing them with the essential knowledge, resources, and confidence necessary to navigate their personal hair journeys. By promoting a deeper understanding of textured hair care, SheaMoisture hopes to equip students with skills that will serve them well beyond their college years.
The interactive and immersive nature of the Sheaversity program means that iconic campus spaces will be transformed into engaging learning environments. Here, students will not just learn about hair care; they will discover products tailored specifically to their unique hair types and textures, ensuring they leave with practical knowledge that lasts. From listening to expert voices and embarking on guided experiences to exploring product discovery, students will embark on a journey of self-exploration and empowerment.
The Sheaversity curriculum includes intriguing learning tracks such as Scalp Studies, Moisture 101, Art of Definition, and Science of Strength. These specialized modules will help students build their understanding of hair care and instill confidence in their abilities to manage their textured hair on their own terms. As stated by Brianna Wright, Head of PR at SheaMoisture, this initiative embodies the spirit of self-expression and personal identity that is already prevalent in HBCU communities. "The Yard serves as a place of learning and connection," she remarks. "With Sheaversity on the Yard, we’re making it our classroom, providing students with vital tools to embrace their hair journeys."
Celebrity hairstylist Justin Revenge and a collective of experts will lead the educational experiences. Justin emphasizes the empowerment that comes from understanding one’s hair, stating, "When people understand their hair, they show up differently. That’s what makes Sheaversity on the Yard so powerful. We are creating access to real education and engaging conversations that students can carry with them long after we leave campus."
As part of the initiative, students will also have opportunities to interact with local business entrepreneurs, fostering a sense of community and cultural appreciation. Engaging with stories through The Shea Student Council and accessing a unique HBCU edition of SheaMoisture's Yes, And magazine, students will delve into themes of creativity and self-discovery.
By collaborating with Walmart, SheaMoisture ensures that students continue to foster their knowledge and routines beyond the tour. With SheaMoisture products readily available at Walmart locations nationwide, students have a trusted resource at their disposal as they continue their hair care journeys.
As SheaMoisture continues to champion Black beauty and culture through innovative initiatives like Sheaversity on the Yard, it underscores its commitment to making textured hair care accessible and relevant. Every formula they create reflects an intentional desire to empower individuals to embrace their unique beauty, with a portfolio that includes hair care, skin care, and personal care products designed specifically for textured hair and melanin-rich skin. As this initiative unfolds, one thing is clear: SheaMoisture is redefining not just hair care but the very essence of self-empowerment within the context of HBCU culture.
