In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability, Reju™, an innovator in textile regeneration, has announced a partnership with Cibutex, a cooperative dedicated to creating a more sustainable supply chain in the textile industry. This collaboration aims to establish a circular textile ecosystem that includes member companies of Cibutex. The partnership is set to revolutionize the way post-consumer textile waste is handled and recycled.
As part of this collaboration, Cibutex will supply secondary raw materials sourced from post-consumer textile waste to Reju. These materials will undergo a recycling process, resulting in the production of Reju Polyester™, a regenerated fabric that exhibits a 50% lower carbon footprint compared to newly produced textiles. This innovative recycling technology developed by Reju allows for an unlimited number of regeneration cycles, ensuring that textiles can be continuously reused rather than discarded.
Reju is pioneering the global infrastructure for large-scale regeneration of textile waste, starting with polyester. The partnership with Cibutex is focused on processing materials from its member companies at the Reju Regeneration Hub Zero in Frankfurt, Germany, which is set to reach full production capacity by 2025, as well as in future Reju regeneration centers.
Cibutex, formed in March 2022 by firms such as Blycolin Textile Services and Lamme Textile Management, aims to facilitate the recovery of post-consumer textiles for businesses and create a pathway for these materials to re-enter the production cycle. Their vision is to close the textile production loop for businesses, ensuring that when textiles are discarded, they are collected and transformed into valuable resources.
The partnership integrates Reju's proprietary regeneration technology, providing traceability and scalability—key components in building a truly sustainable supply chain for circular textiles. Patrik Frisk, CEO of Reju, stated, "Our collaboration with Cibutex positions us at the forefront of necessary change to create a closed-loop textile ecosystem for businesses. Cibutex's unique approach to mobilizing its member companies aligns perfectly with Reju’s mission of large-scale textile regeneration. Together, we are addressing the pressing issue of textile waste, building an infrastructure that prevents precious resources from being sent to landfills or incinerators while reducing the sector's carbon footprint."
Jan Lamme, CEO of Cibutex, added, "Our cooperative was founded on the principle of advancing circular economy practices within the textile sector. Partnering with Reju enhances our ability to reintegrate post-consumer textiles into the production cycle, achieving the traceability and quality that is foundational for a sustainable future. This collaboration represents a significant step towards realizing our vision of a closed supply chain for textile services."
The joint efforts of Reju and Cibutex highlight the strength of collaboration and innovation in tackling the growing challenge of textile waste. Given the EU's implementation of textile waste collection mandates this year and similar regulations in the USA, this initiative comes at a critical time, providing scalable solutions that meet regulatory requirements and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Reju's commitment to recycling polyester and PET plastic waste places them at the heart of addressing environmental concerns while promoting circularity in textiles. The future looks promising as both companies work together to reshape the textile industry for the better, benefiting not only the economy but also the environment.
