2025 Autumn Flower Bed Competition Results in Machida City

Machida City, located in the southern part of Tokyo, is embracing its beauty and community spirit through the annual Autumn Flower Bed Competition. In 2025, the event attracted an impressive 285 organizations, showcasing their talents through flower displays featuring the city flower - Salvia, along with Zinnia linearis and Gomphrena globosa among eight varieties, totaling approximately 190,000 plants.

The judging took place from September 9 to October 1, where panels assessed the flowerbeds based on growth, maintenance, and design. This competition has become a centerpiece for community engagement, encouraging local citizens to participate actively.

Initiated in 1973, the Machida City Flower Bed Competition has aimed to enrich the community with fragrant flowers. Today, 285 groups participate, adorning communal locations with vibrant flora.

Participants receive seedlings and fertilizer grown at the Shimokoyamada Seedling Nursery, after which they design, plant, and maintain their flower beds. Held biannually in April and September, the competition judges the beauty and health of the arrangements.
