Taisyo University Hosts Beginner's Calligraphy Course for Students

Taisyo University's Beginner Calligraphy Course for Students

Taisyo University, located in Toshima, Tokyo, is excited to announce its third annual "Beginner's Calligraphy Course" tailored for middle and high school students. The event will run from July to August 2025, offering a total of nine sessions focusing on the fascinating art of classical Japanese calligraphy, also known as 'kuzushi-ji.'

Under the auspices of the university's Japanese Literature Department, the program aims to engage students with a unique educational experience that encourages their interest in classical literature. This year's course has been designed in response to the requests of previous participants, providing two types of classes:
1. Kuzushi-ji Learning Session: A class primarily focused on teaching the intricacies of the kuzushi-ji script.
2. Literary Work Explanation Session: A class that mostly covers the analysis and introduction of literary works, with some elements of kuzushi-ji learning included.

What makes this program appealing is its accommodating structure. Each session is self-contained, allowing students the flexibility to join from any point during the summer, making it convenient for those with busy schedules.

An Engaging Learning Experience

Classes will be conducted by expert faculty members skilled in classical Japanese literature, along with student assistant instructors. Their approachable and thorough teaching method ensures that students can grasp even complex concepts, fostering a deeper appreciation for Japan's literary heritage. This opportunity is not just about learning calligraphy; it's aimed at broadening students' interests in classical literature—something that can be very enriching as they consider their future educational paths.

At the conclusion of the course, participants will receive a 'Certificate of Attendance' reflecting their engagement, which can serve as a valuable addition to their extracurricular activities. We highly encourage interested middle and high school students to take part in this enriching experience!
