Linc Housing Commemorates 100th Affordable Community Project in California with The Corners at Belmont

Celebrating Affordable Housing in California

Linc Housing, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to affordable housing, has achieved a remarkable milestone this June by commencing construction on its 100th community in California, called The Corners at Belmont. This initiative, located in Belmont, San Mateo County, aims to provide 37 affordable and supportive homes targeted at families and individuals whose incomes fall between 30-80% of the area median income, including individuals who have previously experienced homelessness.

A Vision Realized

Since its inception in 1984, Linc Housing has been committed to creating safe, stable, and affordable living conditions across California. With over 10,000 homes developed over the years, The Corners at Belmont represents not only a physical structure but also the culmination of years of hard work, advocacy, and commitment towards enhancing the lives of underserved communities. According to Linc Housing's CEO, Rebecca Clark, each development signifies an essential step towards a California where everyone can enjoy the dignity of safe housing.

The Project Details

The Corners at Belmont will transform two previously vacant city-owned lots into a vibrant community featuring 18 one-bedroom units, 9 two-bedroom units, and 10 three-bedroom apartments. Notably, the project will include 18 one-bedroom units dedicated specifically to individuals transitioning from homelessness, each of which will receive support via a Section 8 project-based voucher from the San Mateo County Housing Authority.

In addition to residential units, the project is designed with onsite amenities that enhance community living, including:
  • - A community room for gatherings and activities
  • - An outdoor courtyard and a community garden
  • - Bicycle storage to promote eco-friendly transport options
  • - Easy access to public transportation, shopping, and essential services

Community and Partnership

Linc Housing's successful growth and the development of The Corners at Belmont would not have been feasible without the collaboration with the City of Belmont and San Mateo County. County Supervisor Noelia Corzo emphasized the joint efforts to create beautiful and dignified homes in a challenging economic environment, highlighting the immense need for affordable housing.

Belmont’s Mayor, Julia Mates, further supported this initiative through a commitment to providing land for developments like The Corners that align with the city’s values of dignity and community upliftment. The project reflects a collective effort to bring stability and opportunity to working families and individuals who have faced homelessness.

Sustainable Design Elements

The design of The Corners at Belmont will incorporate sustainable features throughout the residential buildings, contributing to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility. Key elements include:
  • - Photovoltaics to harness solar energy
  • - Dual-paned windows to improve insulation
  • - Energy-efficient appliances and systems to lower utility costs
  • - Drought-tolerant landscaping incorporating bioswales and hardscaping to manage water resources effectively

These design principles are forged not just to create homes but to foster an environment that nurtures family and community.

Funding and Future Outlook

Funding for this pioneering development comes from diverse sources including:
  • - Measure K, ARPA, HOME and CDBG funds within San Mateo County
  • - Loans from the City of Belmont and the Housing Trust of Silicon Valley
  • - A construction loan from Bank of America and permanent financing from the California Community Reinvestment Corporation
  • - Tax credit equity facilitated by the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee and investors such as Bank of America

Set to be completed by late summer or early fall of 2026, the project is being constructed by Precision General Commercial Contractors and designed by Torit Gallas Partners.

For families, individuals transitioning out of homelessness, and the community at large, The Corners at Belmont stands as a beacon of hope, embodying Linc Housing’s ongoing commitment to affordable housing solutions that change lives for the better.
