A New Era in Building Foundations: FS Foundation Method
In an era where natural disasters like earthquakes have become increasingly frequent, the demand for safer living environments is rising. Chitaikyo Co., Ltd. has stepped up to the challenge by developing the
FS Foundation Method, a groundbreaking construction technique that combines an exclusive seismic guarantee with one-pour concrete foundations.
Unveiling the FS Foundation Method
The FS Foundation Method was created from Chitaikyo's extensive experience in ground improvement via the Super Geo Method. Traditional foundation work typically involves pouring concrete in multiple phases. This is not just labor-intensive but can also be a significant weak point in terms of structural integrity. Building foundations should be treated as a single unit for calculated strength, making the two-phase pour a concerning approach.
The FS Foundation Method employs a unique framework that allows for the simultaneous pouring of foundation walls and base slabs, resulting in a seamless, sturdy foundation that drastically reduces risks such as subsidence or water damage.
Key Features of the FS Foundation Method
1.
High Quality and Durability: Utilizing special forms, the method allows a monolithic concrete pour, ensuring a continuous and strong base, which minimizes the chances of termite intrusion and groundwater leaks, offering an enhanced lifespan for the structure.
2.
Seismic and Termite Guarantees: The method is designed to minimize the transmission of seismic waves to the building structure. Alongside this, the innovative seismic guarantee system provides certain protections against potential earthquake-related damages, ensuring peace of mind for homeowners.
3.
Time and Cost Efficiency: One-pour concrete significantly reduces construction time compared to traditional methods. Furthermore, the streamlined process translates to notable cost savings.
4.
Resistance to Differential Settlement: Structural planning based on ground investigation is critical, and the robust design achieved through the single-pour technique mitigates the risks associated with differential settlement, ensuring long-term stability for the build.
5.
Environmental Consciousness: The FS Foundation Method not only meets the criteria for ZEH (Net Zero Energy House) but also supports decarbonization during construction. The improved design allows for an even more robust foundation compared to traditional slab foundations, which could result in the reduction of 7,692 kg of CO₂ emissions - equivalent to about 130,000 plastic bags.
As a direct response to governmental goals for carbon neutrality, the FS Foundation Method enhances both safety and environmental responsibility within the construction industry.
Educational Outreach and Adoption
Chitaikyo has already successfully held two free seminars led by their CEO, Akihiko Ino, aimed at disseminating knowledge about the critical importance of one-pour technology. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with approximately 60% expressing interest in adopting this method and around 30% wishing to attend site visits.
In a significant outcome, about 70% of participants proceeded to contracts post-seminar, marking a remarkable milestone for this innovative foundation method.
Background of Development
Emphasizing their commitment to providing safe and secure homes, Chitaikyo was prompted to innovate further amidst increasing natural disasters and demands for long-lasting residences. The rising costs of materials and labor shortages within the construction industry also necessitated a fundamental reevaluation of foundation structures.
Future Objectives
With a focus on cultivating partnerships with housing manufacturers and construction firms, Chitaikyo aims to further advocate for the FS Foundation Method while advancing their technological research. This commitment assures the provision of safe and trustworthy foundations for various building types.
