Utah Museum of Contemporary Art to Feature NCECA's Major 2025 Exhibitions

Utah Museum of Contemporary Art to Showcase NCECA's Major Exhibitions

The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) is excited to announce that it will host the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) flagship exhibitions during the upcoming 2025 NCECA Annual Conference. This significant event, themed "Formation," will take place from March 26-29, 2025, at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. The cornerstone exhibitions held at UMOCA will include the esteemed "2025 NCECA Annual True and Real," the "2025 NCECA Juried Student Exhibition," and the "Multicultural Fellowship Exhibition."

For the first time ever, all three important exhibitions will be displayed in one museum, providing attendees with a unique opportunity to explore contemporary ceramic art just steps away from the conference hub. The "True and Real" exhibition will feature the works of 40 artists, including renowned figures like Simone Leigh, Syd Carpenter, Roberto Lugo, Tip Toland, and Steven Young Lee, curated by Judith S. Schwartz. This showcase aims to delve into the intricate relationships between material, process, and personal truth within contemporary ceramic art.

Moreover, the "2025 NCECA Juried Student Exhibition," co-juried by Adrienne Eliades and Nicole Seisler, serves as a platform for emerging talent in the field, highlighting the creative potential of the next generation of ceramic artists. Meanwhile, the "Multicultural Fellowship Exhibition," curated by Jennifer Ling Datchuck, will amplify diverse voices that are pivotal in shaping the future landscape of the medium.

NCECA's Executive Director, Joshua Green, expressed his excitement, stating, "These three cornerstone showcases for contemporary ceramic art anchor a more extensive series of opportunities to engage with creative vision and objects throughout the host region. It is particularly profound that for the first time, all three of these significant exhibitions will be accessible in a single museum so close to the conference itself."

UMOCA's Curator of Exhibitions, Jared Steffensen, echoed the commitment of both UMOCA and NCECA to fostering community among artists, educators, and students, affirming that these exhibitions reflect a rich diversity in contemporary ceramic artistry and the medium's capability to convey deep meanings.

The exhibitions will be on display for a limited time, with the "2025 NCECA Annual True and Real" and the "Juried Student Exhibition" running from March 7 to May 31, 2025, while the "Multicultural Fellowship Exhibition" will be accessible from March 7 until May 3, 2025.
