Vinci Pharmaceuticals Secures $8 Million Series A Funding for EPIPLANT™ Platform Advancement

Vinci Pharmaceuticals Secures $8 Million Series A Funding for EPIPLANT™

Vinci Pharmaceuticals Inc., a leading specialty pharmaceutical company focused on ophthalmology, has successfully closed a Series A financing round of over $8 million. This financial milestone allows the company to propel its groundbreaking drug delivery platform, EPIPLANT™, intended to innovate the treatment of retinal diseases.

Accelerating Development

With this latest funding round, Vinci Pharmaceuticals has raised a total of more than $16.5 million, combining previous seed funding of $8.5 million. The funds acquired will primarily support the manufacturing, testing, and initial human trials of the EPIPLANT™ system. This patented epiescleral implant aims to address the limitations associated with current intravitreal injections that patients endure, which can often be uncomfortable and logistically challenging.

The Vision Behind EPIPLANT™

Developed under the expertise of Dr. Karl Csaky and his team at the Retina Foundation of the Southwest, located in Dallas, Texas, EPIPLANT™ is designed for sustained drug release directly to retinal tissues. By moving away from traditional injection methods, this technology not only seeks to enhance therapeutic effectiveness but also strives to improve patient compliance by easing the treatment burden.

The Series A funding was spearheaded by Dynagrow Capital, LLLP, with essential contributions from MintPharma Capital. These invested funds are vital for adhering to good manufacturing practices (GMP) and facilitating crucial testing processes, paving the way for a clinical study expected to launch in 2027.

A Step Towards Transformative Treatments

Philip A. Gioia, co-founder and CEO of Vinci Pharmaceuticals, expressed gratitude towards investors and board members who have placed their trust in the potential of EPIPLANT™. Gioia emphasized that this funding marks a significant step towards initiating human trials, promising a safer and more sustainable method for administering therapies to retinal tissues. “This innovation has the potential to alleviate treatment burdens for both patients and healthcare providers,” he noted.

Sarah Hassan, managing director of Dynagrow Capital, remarked on EPIPLANT™’s transformative potential for ophthalmologists and their patients dealing with retinal diseases. The multimolecule platform utilizes a needle-free delivery system, which could notably increase patient adherence to treatment regimens, which is currently undermined by the challenges of existing management strategies.

Future Prospects and Clinical Trials

As Vinci Pharmaceuticals prepares for its upcoming Phase 1/2a clinical trial, the company has fortified its intellectual property portfolio with multiple patents that safeguard the EPIPLANT™ technology. The early preclinical tests have yielded promising results, and the clinical studies are set to further validate the efficacy and safety of this innovative drug delivery system.

Dr. Richard Lindstrom, an ophthalmologist at Minnesota Eye Consultants, acknowledged that EPIPLANT™ could provide precise drug levels directly at the macula, making it a more attractive option than intravitreal injections, currently the standard treatment protocol. This paves the way for potential new therapies addressing currently untreatable retinal conditions.

Vinci Pharmaceuticals’ commitment towards explorative and practical solutions showcase the exciting innovations brewing within the field of eye care. As the company approaches the clinical trial phase, it stands on the brink of making significant strides that could potentially redefine treatment pathways for retinal diseases.
